Caught the Amon Amarth / Sabaton / Skeletonwitch show last night. loving amazing sets by all (granted Sabaton is as cheesy as it gets with black/white camo pants (the bassist matched his guitar paint to this too) on everyone, coordinated headbanging but the lead guy has a ton of energy and is having a fuckton of fun)). Even tho I am pretty bored of AA now, same old riffs, they kill it live and dont miss a beat. Wasn't it this thread that pointed out he's not even drinking beer from his horn? Got to chatup Skeletonwitch members after their set and they are all super grateful. I brought up to Chance Garnette (lead on SW) how they are consistently putting out albums every couple years and he was like yeah man, we are riding high on Serpents and they will begin writing again in 2015. New headlining tour in May, hoping to get an American metal band (I recommended Speedwolf and he wasn't too familiar with them) and a Canadian band when they come up here. loving good times tho. Noticed a shitton of "bros" which I guess makes sense - AA is kinda appealing to a broader audience these days. One thing I hate tho are the people grinding/club dancing in there - the typical bro guy grinding up with a girl who is clearly out of her mind (either from being super wasted or concussed from "over headbanging"(they were going a little too insane for AA)).

I'm bummed that Skeletonwitch isn't playing the NYC date on this tour, but Vallenfyre is filling in so I think I'll get over it. I do wish they had staggered the headlining show Skeletonwitch is playing instead though. I totally would have tried to hit up both if it was doable.

Anyone else get ProgPower USA tickets? Kind of pissed that my first time seeing Falconer live will be their last ever show (I think they've done like less than a dozen total with Blad), but I don't mind going to Atlanta for it. Angra and Hibria are good added bonuses too.

I see they're at 77%, wonder how much longer they'll be available. edit: jesus, tickets went on sale 2 days ago. Let's see if I can talk the wife into it!

Forgot to mention that Equilibrium were the headliner when I saw Trollfest the other night. Totally forgot to mention, probably because they were actually quite boring. Nothing really wrong with the show, just didn't have that secret ingredient that makes a band engaging on stage. Bassist was attractive though.

Both Royal Hunt and Morgana Lefay got a "wait, they're still playing?" double-take from me. Also, a literal lol at a band called Voyager. With the Star Trek font and everything.

COOL CORN posted:It's Angra, man! I know your wife loves them too. Yeah but, but after looking at the lineup an impulse buy of 300 bucks (plus the whole cost for a weekend in atlanta) for 2 or 3 bands that I really like and a whole bunch of 'meh' bands just wasn't worth it. Plus Angra's playing through the wrong album.

The tide of olschool metal bands crawling out of the woodwork everywhere in recent years still isn't abating, and I LOVE IT. Case in point: Amulet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWL4ENWwm5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_7Tx89ZnXc Not losing my mind over this like I did with Arkham Witch, but this is just great solid stuff, gratuitously low-fi production and all.

They need to find a producer that doesn't brickwall their albums to hell and back. It also sounds a lot more like some sort of tech/melodeath thing than it does their previous work. Can't say I'm not disappointed.

My only gripe is that I feel like the band is chasing this hyper precise drumming that so many metal bands are going for these days with blastbeats and drumming in general. Like I understand the need to make the music intense, but it ends up feeling mechanical to me. Like if you told me that this was done by a drum machine I would totally believe you. The intro didn't really do much for me, but the rest of the song was killer. I guess I'm at the point where the hyper precise tech death riff doesn't do it for me the way that it used to. I'm really looking forward to this album.

Yeah, it's a very sterile song, and most of NeO's stuff seems pretty organic to me. This just sounds like Beyond Creation with a violinist. It's weird because their other promo tracks have had their usual magical feeling, but this just falls flat for me.

I don't know, I reckon if you're going to do something that huge and intense, you need that sort of uber-precision otherwise it doesn't work.

The drummer from NeO is pretty insane. On Portal of I somewhere he's weaving a blast beat into some other poo poo and it's just like

I got a pretty serious Quo Vadis vibe from the production on that Ne Obliviscaris track, but they also had that sterile drumming thing going on.

The best thing about BG live shows is the energy. Everyone sings along - the Tokyo Tales recording of Valhalla has the audience keep going for a couple minutes after the end of the song.
