Aw poo poo. I'm playing Icewind Dale 1 for the first time in 10 years and forgot that in old RPGs you aren't warned about getting rid of items you will need later. I dumped all the badges from beating bosses at some point and have no idea where I did it.

I finally just started playing BG:EE and BG2:EE. I want to pick up the new characters but I'm kind of a snob when it comes to voice acting, are any of them really terrible? I haven't left Candlekeep yet but I'm looking forward to the archetypal beginning-of-baldur's-gate experience, which is either getting killed by that loving wolf or this

I think I'll just pick up all the new people even if they're grating, it'll be nice to have some fresh content while replaying this for like the fifth time. I see there's a mod for weapon sets, has anyone used that? I like to put one point in a ranged weapon in BG1 just because they're so useful, but on any character who dual-wields or uses a shield it's a pain to constantly go into the inventory to switch back and forth edit: I just ran into Neera and I see what you mean. Her VA is perfectly fine but she's obviously going to be the lol random jokes wild mage. I've never used one though so this is all new content to me! anime tupac fucked around with this message at 09:47 on Oct 9, 2014 |

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS OMNIPRESENT AUTHORITY FIGURRRRRRRRRE?????? Neera is only as annoying as your tolerance for "quirky" characters allows for. I do think she had the funniest line in Baldur's Gate 2, though. When you meet her again in the random city map and she comments about the barrels full of water. I laughed at that one.

Baldur's Gate is a dumb and wacky game about half the time so I don't really see how Neera is so much worse. I wish there was an option to say "Hey I'm a wild mage too you know" in her quests though.

Wow, unless they changed it that means that there wasn't a scroll of Stoneskin at all in pre-expansion original BG. I must be mistaken, because that's a key protection spell and I'm sure that single-class mages could get to at least level 7 before hitting 89k experience.

You get to just below level 8 in 89kxp

It's a very useful spell that enables cool/fun/expected strategies for mid-high campaigns like BG2, but the buff tank of doom is so much less of a thing at ~7th level. There's probably also something to be said about them not thinking over the available spell selection beyond 3rd, though. Your spellbook is super scrappy and esoteric for 4th and 5th order spells for 99% of BG1.

I've been playing and re-playing the IE games at irregular intervals since they first came out 15-ish years ago, and I've only now, after playing them back-to-back, realized how much better Icewind Dale is than BG1. IWD is more tonally consistent (BG could never quite settle on being either a serious D&D adventure or a parody of one), better written despite having less text, far more balanced, better paced, and much prettier. Oh, and it has the superior soundtrack of the two. So happy that it's getting the EE treatment, though I hope Beamdog don't screw up too much.

Oh, and it has the superior soundtrack of the two. First time around I wasn't too big on Baldur's Gate but after playing it again, I really appreciated the tone and design of it. It really focuses on the macro adventure and it does feel like one compared to Baldur's Gate 2's micro adventure focus. I also found Sarevok a more compelling villain. His plans were much more elaborate and it was fun discovering them as the story went on.

I did end up pre-ordering IWDEE though. After the announcement of the EE, I installed IWD on my computer and it didn't run very well, even using various ddraw fixes so I figured why not. I look forward to playing it in 2017 when it's fully patched.

Learn to set some realistic expectations. In this case, though, I'm calling it just plain greed. They know that IWDEE will make them a nice packet, but patching BG2EE doesn't earn tuppence, so I'm sure that almost all of their resources (and yes, I know that BeamDog is a quite small company) are oriented towards their cash cow.

You got jumped by the wizard police because you cast mage spells during the fight. Your choice of paying a bunch of gold for a casting license or fighting the Cowled Wizards until you beat their SWAT team and they leave you alone. Killing the guy who supposedly killed Anomen's sister means Anomen will turn CN and not get +2 Wisdom. He'll also fight Aerie and Keldorn and generally be a jackass from here on out.

The wizard police shouldn't be related. I'm fairly sure you don't lose rep for killing Saerk's daughter, and it's inside so you're not triggering their magic ban. It's probably something else you've done.

I'm not sure it's the 'no magic allowed' police, I got attacked and there was a message like 'word of your misdeeds must have reached them' or whatever. There was also no option to buy a magic license. Edit: I did kill the cook and the commoner inside, apparently this gives you a big reputation drop. Could this be the reason? And is there anyway to run away from these guys and fix my reputation? klaphark fucked around with this message at 23:29 on Oct 10, 2014 |

It's also possible you have a very low reputation, IIRC with a rep of 3 or less you will get jumped by Cowled Wizards goons or Paladins regularly. Edit: Ok, it's probably something like that then, reload to a prior state or go to a church and throw money at them to improve your reputation and try not to kill any more peasants, even if they turn hostile. It was a reputation thing, I ended up reloading and telling Anomen to go to the cops. Then later I talked to a cutpurse and Anomen just tried to kill him. Then I explored the bridge district for a bit and stumbled on an elemental lich? My party died in 3 spells or something. This game is cool and I'm enjoying it.

It's cool to see someone playing it for the first time, I think everyone in this thread misses that and wishes they could see it that way again. It was the first non-JRPG I played and I really loved it. BG1 question: I don't want to read too much about how his quest plays out because I'd rather just have it all happen unexpectedly, but when does Rasaad's quest stuff begin? I've been getting dialogue with him and all that, and I assume eventually we're going to run into something that constitutes a quest, but I don't want to miss it (and I also don't want to have to drag his frail carcass through 90% of the game or anything either).
