When the murder happened he posted stuff on social media claiming to know who the killers were, then fled the island saying he was being threatened by the Thai mafia. He was then harassed by the press for more details. I think it then turns out, that he doesn't know anything about any of it and is just a massive attention seeking turd stain. There are a few other posters that understand the story a bit better than I do so hopefully they can elaborate.

I used to think that the Burmese staff shifted around so much because they would go home to visit family. Turns out that every time a major crime is committed on your island you have to move to a different one and change your name so you don't end up losing the musical chairs prison game. I wonder if there's a formal rotation?

Yeah it's a definite change of pace. Phnom Penh has a fantastic eating/drinking scene so I suggest taking full advantage of that. Most places are within a few blocks of the riverside so it's pretty easy to get around. The riverside street itself is pretty touristy and can be kinda meh, but an afternoon beer at the FCC is nice. The variety is pretty huge for a small city so happy to give you some more specific recommendations if you let me know what you're into. Or let me know if you wanna grab dinner one night even, I work during the week but am usually free in the evenings. Other than that, just go and explore the city, have a wander around some of the markets etc. Or if you want something a bit more structured, there are architecture tours you can take which let you see a few of the less well-known sights. EDIT: And just cos I know Reindeer will suggest it - Go to zeppelin bar late night, order a beer and some dumplings, and try to get the DJ to smile. Hi! I know this thread is mostly long-term travel in SE Asia, but I was hoping to get some tips for a shorter trip. I'm visiting Hong Kong for work in January, and am looking for suggestions for a 5ish-day side-trip before I arrive in Hong Kong. My loose criteria are: - Relatively quick to get to from Hong Kong (up to say 8 hours, ideally less) so I'm not spending the whole time on a bus/plane. - More interested in mountains, temples and history than beaches, big cities and nightclubs. - I have a peanut allergy (peanut oil isn't a problem, luckily). I'm therefore leery of going anywhere TOO far off the beaten track in countries where peanuts are prevalent, both in terms of ability to find nut-free food, and proximity to a hospital in case I mess up. Somewhere where the cuisine doesn't rely heavily on peanuts would be awesome, although not a deal breaker. - Not Japan (it's the only place in SE Asia that I've already been to, and I'd like to try somewhere new).

My loose criteria are: Another vote for Taiwan but if you're looking for something less Chinese, perhaps Chiang Mai and Pai are good options. They're in North Western Thailand and are easy to get to from anywhere in Asia. Another option is Sukhothai: there are two historic sites nearby that are worth a day each. Kind of like Siam Reap lite, and a hell of a lot more relaxed. Also consider Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia.
