I drained it in his driveway with a 12V bilge pump and hauled it back on rotten tires.

It sat in the parking lot at work for about a year and once again filled up with rainwater. Some idiot bought it shortly after. They just HAD to have it when they saw it from the highway. wtf. People are stupid.

Heard of some great schadenfreude a few days ago in the weekly safety meeting we have at my work. I work for a mining company, and we hear stories all the time of dudes doing unsafe things around the industry with the general caveat of "these dudes got fired on the spot, don't do what they did".

So four dudes working at a BHP iron ore mine in Western Australia decided to do an ice bucket challenge. Two guys lifted up a 100 litre bin of water up using two Hiab portable truck-mounted cranes, and dumped it on a guy, while the fourth guy filmed it on the office camera. The two drivers and the dumpee were fired on the spot. The guy filming it was suspended without pay pending an investigation, and will almost certainly get fired. These guys were an electrician, a fitter-and-turner and a shift supervisor - we're talking two 100k+ per year jobs and a 130k+ job, and they've pissed them away for a chance at some e-fame that they're never going to get, because the camera is company property and the footage was deleted after being reviewed for the action against them.

It's not work-appropriate, sure, but what's the fireable offense? The liability if the bin crushed the guy or something? Genuinely curious, not being a dick

Misuse of company property probably. And yeah I think at least one person has died from overdoing it on the ice bucket thing.

It's just generally a bad idea to suspend large weights of things over peoples' heads as a joke and the possibility of lawsuits is fairly EXTREME.

I will never get tired of that gif. Everything about it is perfect: the way the dude goes down like a log, the woman in the pink bikini bouncing around everywhere, the yellow bikini woman's glasses boomeranging around; they couldn't have done better even if it was on purpose somehow.

Standing under a suspended load is the big one, safety is taken very seriously in mining in Australia. The guy filming it stood there and let it happen without telling them not to, that's just about as bad. I heard about three contractors that were fired from a mine in Tasmania because they were in a company vehicle and drove it from one side of a carpark to another without putting their seatbelts on. It sounds ridiculous, but there's seriously no room for error. The penalty for safety failures on a mine site is generally a body count. The Chinese coal mining industry is a great example of what not to do.

There was also an incident in the US where a firetruck involved in an Ice Bucket Challenge contacted an overhead high voltage line which sent a few firefighters to the hospital for electric shock, and one died.

You would think firefighters, of all people would be conscientious about not hitting power lines with their big trucks.

That's an Australian magpie. It's spring here, so they're getting territorial about their nests. Expect more videos as this poo poo will just keep happening for the next couple months.

IF you're seeing them from Australian, then yes, they're arseholes. Magpies are basically just a pack of ornery pricks that decide that everything is a threat to their nests in breeding season. I've seen one that constantly swooped passing cars.

Many sharks have a similar coloring, i.e. dark on top, light on the bottom, to blend in with their surrounding depending on which angle it is seen from. Plus it has a vertical caudal fin, and a notch in the upper fin lobe seen in the gif, definite shark traits.

That's an Australian Magpie. They're smart, hate people during spring and they teach each other who to hate. It's been proven that they hold grudges and communicate this to other magpies.

I just moved house, and it appears the magpies were fed by the previous residents. drat near had a heartattack when 3 of them came swooping in at me only to air-brake and land on the fence and hop along the top squawking at me until I threw a chip.

Anyway one time me and a friend were at a KFC, and he was throwing chips around but nothing too serious, just into plants and out the window and poo poo. So anyway I throw one down the stairwell just as this
Magpie slut is coming up and it hits her smack in the face. So she starts Chirping on and this Magpie guy comes charging up the stairs towards me ( I assume its her boyfriend) he comes up and starts getting in my face saying "WHY? WHY YOU THROW CHIP? HUH?" and I said some lame response like "Oh, well I meant to just throw it down the stairs and she walked into it". So he does this little thing where he turns away like he's going to walk off, and then spins around and goes to punch me in the face, he's much shorter than me so instead he just flies into shoulder.

Next thing I'm punching into his beak and the top of his head (he's going down into a crouch) and my friend comes in with his knee and starts kneeing him in the face, then I lifted him up by his little feathers and slammed the back of his skull into a supporting pole. Meanwhile his girlfriend and some old bird bitch are jumping all over us chirping on in birdspeak or whatever, screaming at the top of their lungs so the whole of the kfc runs over to watch. Then this big black security guard chick (!) comes over and starts throwing her weight around wanting to know what's going on, I look down and the Magpie dude is sitting on the floor holding his face which is dripping blood, so I run the gently caress out of the shop and down the road a fair bit, I expected my friend to follow or someone from the kfc to give chase, nothing happened neither my friend nor security people followed.

So I cautiously walk back to see what the gently caress my friend is doing and I see he's in there with 2 security guards trying to restrain him, and he's still trying to have a go at the Asian guy, and pretty much everyone in the shop yelling "COME ON THEN!!! loving COME ON!!!" at the top of his lungs. Needless to say he's a bit of a psycho, he goes a bit crazy when he gets into a fight. So I go to the door and yell out "hey, fuckin come on man" and comes running out and we take off down the road. Next thing we hear some sirens so we pissed off down into the train station.
Fun.
And I didn't even get to finish my dinner
