That's confusing then. I thought they were releasing a new rim. Now it's a whole new base.

The clubsport v2 base is the Xbox one compatible base. Any clubsport rim will work on pc, ps3, and Xbox one with the clubsport v2 base. For ps4 you'll have to get a specific ps4 compatible rim that has not yet been announced.

Yep. Recall the "Next Generation" section of the CSWv2 announcement.

edit: er wait, I didn't read your post entirely. No, Xbone will not work without the specific rim. Same with PS4. The base itself is technically compatible with either, but bullshit licensing makes it stupid.

quote:

And how can we make a product multi-platform compatible if we can only get approval for a license if the product has only the symbols of either one console on it?

We came up with an idea which brings modularity to a whole new level and protects your investment. If you play on PC then just go ahead and purchase the wheel base as it is and you will not be bothered with symbols which might hurt your eye.

But if you want to enjoy the painless simplicity of a console with its great exclusive racing simulations then you will get the option to buy an optional steering wheel which will
add full console compatibility to this base.

tl;dr: Consoles require official licensing, licensing requires logos and buttons, neither will license if other's logo is there. Fanatec does the best they can to bypass the stupidity and attaches the required bits to a removable part.

It's sort of like how Xboxes wouldn't play DVDs without the remote. They were all physically capable of it and all had the software to do it, but the DVD CCA license that made it legal was associated with the remote dongle to cut costs on the main box so the OEM software would refuse to play without the dongle in place. Same here, the CSWv2 and presumably future wheels will be all compatible with the consoles but will only be allowed to work if their specific wheel is mounted.

Here's hoping they at least make it one of the universal bases.

Maybe it's just a confusion since they are a German company posting in English. Based off all the announcements, it sounds like the CSW v2 base is itself compatible with Xbone. You can use any rim and it works on xbone. PS4 will require a new rim that contains whatever chip allows it to work.

The original announcement makes it sound like each system would have its own rim.

Where did you learn to drive?
Race Department, VirtualR, official rF2 forums (better compatibility and more stable mods) and a Facebook page called Assetto Corsa Mods which has a ton of content. I haven't played AC for quite a while, so I don't know the quality of the Facebook page's mods.

I've been doing mostly iRacing with the Skippy, but the recent releases for rF2 and AC might be changing that...

As long as I can find plenty of 'lovely' (80s/90s) car mods I'll be happy. I do like how cars dynamically get their own logo (like gran turismo) in the car selection screen.

I downloaded a ford escort and suddenly I have a ford logo, hoping this works for every car out there?

I think that depends on the mod.
I use Race Dept too but a while back someone linked me to a crazy foreign site that had shitloads of different mods, can't find it now though and fear it may be lost forever

If you're looking for a new Rift experience, AC is ok but it's not worth switching to VR entirely yet. The rift SDK implementation is shoddy at best. There's no depth, it's the same image for each eye. I don't really know how they did that, but they did. The head tracking is off and the scale is off.

Really? I dunno man it works OK for me, stereoscopic and everything.
Could be buggin out I guess, the DK1 for me did for the longest time, headtracking is cool as well, I was leaning in to look closely at the dials etc earlier like a smug rear end in a top hat

Edit: Although I will for sure have another look tomorrow, just seen your post in the Rift thread, interesting stuff.

I thought it was 3D at first too. Though it looked really weird. Then I saw on the oculus subreddit that people were complaining about it being 2D. I loaded AC back up and closed both eyes. Lo and behold, both had the same camera angle. It seems 3D at first because you can move your head around and you can see parallax scrolling with things in the cockpit but it's not stereoscopic.

I'm not doubting you my man, it could be the case, here, just right this second I took a screenie, what do you make of it?

I mean, it looks legit to me - I'm interested on your opinions on this.

OK, this poo poo is weird, this image below is from photoshop, the left eye is the top layer the right eye the bottom layer, the top layer is set to 50% opacity so you would expect to see the bottom layer if the image was stereoscopic as they would be of different angles:

Yeah, this is NOT stereoscopic, good catch man

Played a bit of the Assetto Corsa career running around in a 500 earning medals in what is apparently a still oddly scored Time Attack mode. It is certainly fun having a set progression through stuff in a racing sim. All my passed experience has been in stuff like rFactor where it is all league races and you just get thrown in the deep end.

I'm a bit miffed since they still haven't lifted the ludicrous view angle limit for TrackIR, but until I start racing other humans, this isn't a huge deal. There's a support thread on their forums about it, so hopefully they'll address it in the short term.

Career is a really fun distraction, but I'm already a sucker for "start with a little hatch and somehow end up in an LMP" in GT and Forza.

the lack of a file in the steam version made read the IPD value as 0, that didn't happend on the dev version.
I fixed it and a new build will be available in a matter of minutes.
This should solve the absence of 3d issue and the scale issue

Awesome!
I haven't had chance to test yet but at least they acknowledge the issue and it isn't 'supposed' to be this way

Edit: It works! Really nice now, very vibrant

Getting stuff working can range from plug and play right to loving about with files of moon code, rift software and windows but as a hobby type thing it rocks for me, it's interesting and fun and when it works it's brilliant.

+1 the LaFerrari sounds like a revved-up pencil sharpener, but I'm mostly worried about the lackluster effort that is MP implementation. Still no way to call votes when not in the pit and netcode is still so bad that servers shown at 9/24 players on the server browser boot you for being full.

I mainly got the Rift for racing games too, there's lots I want to play but sims are where it's at for me at the moment and with iRacing, R Factor 2, Live For Speed and now Assetto Corsa all with good support (and stuff like Grid Autosport as well for me) the future is looking really promising.

Yeah, unless you plan on practicing to become a real life car racer, I think the G27 is plenty of wheel and pedal. I don't even use the full 900 degrees for most of my racing (pretty much stick to 400). There are also mods you can do to make the pedals feel more realistic if you don't like them out of the box... but I'm fine with them as is.
