Something to point out from the OP; That's the Hyaku Shiki, right? Not only was it announced as a kit a little while ago, but it's supposed to have a HGBC Booster too. You'll be able to buy that cannon separately   .

My only complaint is that why would Fumina get a Methuss in the flashback, it's a terrible mobile suit! There are tons of yellow ones that are better.

Maybe she just wanted a basic mobile suit to learn Gunpla building and battling. Yellow being her favorite color caught her eye. A competitive gamer would start that way, choose a character/robot that would teach them the basics of the game. Yuu probably chose the coolest thing on the shelf.

One thing I finally noticed while rewatching both episodes is that the Build Burning doesn't seem to have traditional booster thrusters. Instesd it thrusts around using raw Plavsky Particles. What the hell, Sei. Also that rival(?) Destiny into the OP seemed to have an RG Knuckle style attack, maked me wonder if more Fighters are starting to use Plavsky trickery.
