About a year back, I got a bugship that I could never conceivably afford for being the first hopeful applicant to successfully complete the Dental application test.

Rather than do the smart thing and immediately flip it on the exchange for space riches, I decided that a ship that magical needed an equally magical character to go with it. 80s goons should not have a problem guessing her name.

Flying the Vaadwaur ship in one of the story missions and it was armed with these in the rear slots. Upcoming weapons for the next lockbox? A hint of cannon upgrades so broadsiders have better choices? Cryptic loving up and putting front-only weapons in rear slots? Time will tell.

The saucer on the Scryer looks a little goofy, but I do retract my statement about the other science vessels as, looking back through my ships, they're not so bad. My memory made them worse.

Join the channel and ask questions there, people will help. There's a lot of things you can do starting at level 50, especially if you haven't played in awhile, but nothing horrible is going to happen if you don't do everything right away. Just focus on a few things until you get the hang of them.

Welcome to Delta Rising. A lot has changed in the game difficulty, and we are looking for your feedback.

Delta Rising was a massive addition, and we anticipate that we will need to make adjustments. So over the next few weeks expect changes in the baseline difficulty, advanced difficulty, and elite difficulty - and also expect rewards to change as we gather more metrics on play-times and success rates.

Our goal was to make basic difficulty and the story content something everyone can play - even with a standard T5 ship. Levels 1-50 are generally pretty easy at basic difficulty, so we felt 51-60 should step things up a bit. Although we expect 51-60 accessible everyone, those in T5 ships and non-upgraded gear should to start to feel a definite challenge as they approach level 60. We expect Advanced to be for more skilled players and those who have invested in the game (ships and gear). And we expect Elite to be for the best of the best. We don't expect most players to succeed on elite difficulty.

If I were to guess, I would expect basic to get some minor tuning, Advanced to get a little easier and Elite to get a lot harder - and rewards, like dilithium rewards, could potentially go up across queues once we are sure we are hitting the right mark. But this is just my guess at this time.

Until then, let us know your thoughts here, and we will take your feedback into consideration.

Thanks, and we hope you enjoy Delta Rising.

Yes, but the complaints have some merit. Ships don't get stronger as you level up so anyone who's struggling at level 50 will still be struggling at 60. I'm not sure how much difference maxing out the various specializations will make since that requires levelling significantly past 60, but it's unlikely to make people 5-10 times as effective (the enemies in advanced generally have 5-10 times the HP of old elites).

There are a few big problems that are obvious even now. Before release the devs said that advanced would be like the old elite, but it's manifestly not. Most things have vastly increased HP (and optionals are now requireds), but even that is inconsistent. In viscous cycle the ships that shoot at you got buffed but the baby planet killers didn't. And you only have to kill the planet killers, you can ignore the buffed ships. The CE went from 1.2 million HP to 21 million, while retaining it's healing abilities and damage resistance. Good luck ever killing that. Borg have all been buffed, but it doesn't seem uniform, more like a bunch of different people plugged random large numbers in for HP.

Meanwhile, queue rewards were cut in half. STFs take longer (even for a good pre-made team) and give fewer rewards. You don't need to be 60 to see why people don't like that.

Oh, and as a final 'gently caress you' to new players, you can't get rep equipment without the various rep drops, which only drop on advanced or higher. So the only way to get the gear required to run advanced STFs is by running lots of advanced STFs without the required gear.

Whilst there are quest rewards you can work with and get for most slots that will serve(There's at least one quest in the new content that is giving out Mark 13 Phasers), that also means potentially dealing with the upgrade system for months/years.

...Anyone checked old missions to see whether rewards for earlier content keep scaling up or not?

The T6 and T5U ships do level up a bit, they unlock some passives and gain some hull. Escorts and Destroyers get the damage-boosting passives, of course, while cruisers get shafted with passives focused on resistance (which is subject to such severe diminishing returns that a +25 only looks good on a tooltip).

But overall, an upgraded level 60 character is going to do about 30% more damage while the enemies have about 500% more HP. Everything takes a minimum of 5x longer, sometimes more, and the STFs have hard-fail time limits that are pretty brutal to people who aren't DPS freaks.

Yup! Don't forget that all the rep gear is MkXII too, so after grinding the rep, grinding the tedious Advanced STFs for the items to buy it, and spending around 120k dil on the set, you then get to spend another 100k+ to actually upgrade the set to MkXIV! :toot:

Sorta. The main thing crafting and upgrading did was make it much, much easier to get specific combinations of mods since you can crank out very rare MkII weapons for a pittance until you get the mods you want. This also lets you get a few combinations that were previously impossible, like CrtDx3 antiprotons. In general, for PVE, these days you're going to want as much CrtD as possible and probably plasma; a bit less crit damage than AP but it's boosted by the embassy consoles which means it makes science boats, carriers, sci-Odys, and other less used ships suddenly potent and valuable.

Don't forget that superior tech upgrades (you'll probably need about 20 per item to get from MkXII to MkXIV) cost over a million ec, or are crafted from rare/VR materials which will cost you over a million ec. And of course, those materials are mostly received by running STFs, so forget the price coming down anytime soon. You can use improved upgrades instead at roughly 1/10th the EC cost, but double the dil cost. Do not use basic tech upgrades ever.

Since :cryptic: seems intent on turning the end-game into even more of a DPS-fest than it already was, anyone looking to gear up from scratch should probably go plasma since you can get damage boosts from embasssy sci consoles as well as your tac consoles. If you're cheap go phaser since there's a bunch of new missions which reward MkXIII [ACC]x3 phasers.

And yeah, definitely plasma. The embassy consoles are a not insignificant boost to damage, and you'll probably want to stack flow caps anyway if you've got plasmonic leech.

You can get them from the fleet embassy on New Romulus. You probably want the plasma-infused [-TH] ones, though the threat-scaling features are practically worthless. If you can do decent damage you will pull aggro no matter how many -Th consoles you have.

Our God..... is an awesome God
Even factoring in the increased power from specializations, T5U or T6 ships, and mk xiv equipment, the new advanced queues are much tougher than the old elites. Though to be honest the old elites were way too easy.

The real problem seems to be the decreased rewards. I'm pretty sure this was intentional; Infected Elite was never meant to be run in 5 minutes, that was the result of years of power creep. So the new ones giving less reward for time spent is almost certainly by design. The rewards aren't nerfed as bad as they sound either; apparently they included a dilithium bonus for getting the optional, so when I did Infected Normal I got 480 dil instead of the 240 reward listed for "normal" queues. Next time I do Advanced I'll make a note to check out how much dilithium I get as well. The Borg Neural Processors and other rep rewards are a big problem, though, and they should probably make them start dropping in normal so new players can get rep gear.

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Yeah, it's plainly obvious that Cryptic hated the reward you got from the borg STFs and were just itching for an opportunity to nerf it into the ground.

Honestly I could probably live with that if it wasn't accompanied by massive tedium, increased costs, and all the other bullshit of the expansion. Or that it's plainly obvious that Cryptic really really wants you to get at most 1 mark/20 dil per minute of a queue despite the fact this is tedious as gently caress and everyone invariably migrating to the queues with better time/reward. There's also the matter that having some five or ten minute queues wasn't really a bad thing either from the player's end...

Yeah, part of the reason I liked the game was the fact that I could log in and blow up some borg in bite-sized chunks whenever I felt like it. I was planning on spending some cash on new goodies when the expansion was announced like I did last time, but I haven't even logged in since it hit and every time I read this thread I get less motivated to do so with all the bullshit they've put in.
