The Shirobako site has a big dictionary for all the terms used in the show with new words each episode. http://shirobako-anime.com/words.html It's in Japanese of course but it's nice that they put enough thought into the show that they knew a lot of these terms would be unknown to people.

Also it is one of only 2 non lovely shows Seiji Kishi has directed. If you're not talking Humanity Has Declined, then that's a problem. And Yugo the Negotiator was, at the very least, a big departure from just about anything else he's done.

While on some level I enjoy seeing how the sausage is made, there's no hook for me personally. The anime they're making looks terrible, and the cast is largely a bunch of dumb wieners, from our otherwise competent donut-obsessed protagonist (BECAUSE LIKING A FOOD IS CHARACTERIZATION, RIGHT???) to lovely loser coworker who lectures others after a catstrophic fuckup of his own.

OnimaruXLR posted:The anime they're making looks terrible, and the cast is largely a bunch of dumb wieners, I know, isn't it wonderful?? Also, it's not particularly deep or anything but Aoi's Donut obsession is pretty transparently her latching onto something instantly satisfying that reminds her of high school because her job is a lot of hard work for insubstantial reward. Characters in this show are just a bunch of quirks balanced on top of one another, but it works because the quirks are relatable and the script knows why and when to trot them out.

I enjoyed the first episode well enough but haven't really felt any desire to keep watching. I was kind of hoping this would turn out to be something more like Servant x Service, but when the first episode ended I had no real impression of who any of the cast were or why I should care at all about any of them. It was a little bit boring to me outside of the street race part which was pretty funny.

My god that young punk is insufferable. He fucks up his own work and has the balls to nab on someone else's failure. The way he talks is annoying too and at least one character in the show agrees with me. Also, the producer needs to be slapped. I'm a VA nerd so I was excited to see some of my favorites show up as themselves. Not sure how they will have enough content for 26 episodes.

These two episodes have covered like three days. It will take two cours to cover what it takes to make one cour of anime.

This is a really cool show. It's funny, and all of the characters really stick out and feel real. The fact that the anime they're making seems to be dumb and trashy really helps, too; if it were some incredible anime to save all anime it'd feel so schmaltzy and serious. I'm glad to have something to anticipate while Stardust Crusaders is on break.

Especially since it was his fault that episode 4 was behind schedule, since they needed to divert resources from that to fixing his fuckup on episode three. I know way too many people like that in my line of work, and it makes me wish I could reach through the TV and punch him

I dunno about 'goons' (which is a pretty crummy way to judge the value of a show) but I was really digging it until like, the penultimate episode where they pull a super serious cliffhanger they asspull in the first 10 seconds of the next episode. It was so bad that it would have been hilarious if they hadn't actually succeeded in getting me invested in the loving thing. DamnGlitch fucked around with this message at 08:55 on Oct 21, 2014 |
