Thanks for the clarification. Its really hard to decide because I don't want to stay in the navy any longer than I have to but I'm seriously considering extending few months just to get away from this very toxic shore command even if my new orders are sea duty.

guys, I just reenlisted for 2 more years of reserve duty today because family healthcare while you're an underemployed student is the worst. kind of expecting to get medical discharge from destroying my ankle since I am the LLD queen at this point. 11 months LLD, AT waived, still have ~8 months LLD + physical therapy until I'm fit for full duty. Expected to regain 80-90% of mobility. Yay.

If this is the first time you've reenlisted, the navy considers you a careerist now. Congrats.

I get 300 dollars and cheap healthcare every month to basically write awards for people and occasionally fix their computers. Somehow, everyone thinks that being in charge of training is a huge deal. It takes me about 15 minutes a month to take care of my paperwork because I have everything set up in templates in Excel and Word. Ket whenever I see your posts I remember the misery of your life as an instructor and it always helped me realize that "oh well, at least I'm not a Nuke." I laugh pretty hard when I see my friend's significant others/siblings go against what I tell them and enlist as Nukes what with the eventual "I hate my loving life" status updates on facebook every so often. Feels good to see life is finally going well for you, hopefully you get that Med Board. 3 LLDs and you get looked at for it automatically, IIRC. Just hope you have a decent PEBLO to handle all your paperwork. Try and maintain copies of all the paperwork that's going into it, you never know what gets lost/looked over. My girlfriend found a Pit Bull puppy near her apartment complex, pictures coming up when she gets internet tonight

I'm definitely getting a med board in February. I've been told by my HM2 that "I'll probably be allowed to stay in" which is kind of laughable considering how hard they're trying to kick people out of the USNR. Either way, as long as I keep cheap healthcare I really don't care that much. I get 6 months of healthcare from my company each year (summers+90 days) so I guess I could pay for COBRA or something if the Navy gives me one final dick in the butt.

If you're found unfit >30% for a condition by the medboard, you'll be medically retired either PDRL or TDRL with Tricare.

At least with TDRL Ket, remember to mark down the date of when you are to see a provider for an update on your condition if you are to receive the >30% unfit rating. If you miss the appointment or don't see a provider in the prescribed time, they could have you start the process all over again/pull whatever benefits you were receiving while on it. I've had a few patients that lost their benefits/had to start the process over because they didn't receive a call/didn't schedule for their continued care at the time it was supposed to happen. So, make sure to ask questions about continuing care and what kind of doctor you have to see should you be put on either list.

CO was watching my PRT today. Are you supposed to call attention on deck while in PT gear? No one did, but this was also the first time since he's been the CO ( a year and a half) that I've seen him in person. I also hear he got pissed off the other day that a watchfloor that didn't belong to him didn't call attention on deck, so idk.

The purpose of calling attention on deck is to bring people to attention. Much like the rules on saluting (e.g. you don't have to salute if you are running your PRT/carrying a heavy load/driving a car etc.) can be relaxed depending on the circumstances, outdoors, it's a judgment call whether or not calling attention on deck is appropriate. Wanting people to stand at attention to bask in your warm senior glow while they are getting ready to/engaging in the PRT makes you a certified douche. He just sounds a bit douchey, I've never seen anyone call attention on deck while in PT gear. Not really your problem to call it if you're out ranked by another petty officer, always just leave it to them unless you want to have attention drawn to yourself. People that aren't even his wouldn't have the slightest clue that he was the CO. Just salute to be safe/call attention on deck if you feel that it's called for because keeping the douche off your rear end is what matters most until you get out.

So a little debate seems to be going on among the different HNs, especially the new ones coming in from other commands. For the people that have been to hospitals as commands: 1) Do the evals of the lower enlisted get ranked based on their NEC or do you lump in everyone that's assigned to a particular directorate? Seems that everyone would get ranked based on their performance only within their particular department in a smart way (Psych tech evals ranked with Psych techs, Surg techs with Surg techs, etc.), with all the general duty (0000 and 8404) being lumped in together. This is particularly because of the various workloads of every clinic being different, as well as their duties. In my case, I won't ever see as many patients as someone assigned to regular medical primarily because our evaluations are different and require different amounts of time to complete. 2) Are your guys stacked individually based on work? It appears that everyone seems to get a general duty evaluation, with low performers being given more credit and high performers lower based on the fact that they all work as a team, which makes no sense for an individual evaluation. It may just be anger at being given the same points/MP/P as someone that doesn't have a job, but the EPs seem to go solely to the people that have volunteer hours regardless of the others competing with college hours.

The entire eval system is dumb as poo poo. We had a poo poo-hot guy in my division not get an EP until his next eval due to CPO clout even though he was undoubtedly deserving of this. I have never been to a hospital command but I can't imagine the retarded office politics are any different from retarded ship politics.

Pretty much. Ditto for awards boards. Source: Sat on an awards board and routinely pointed out that the only time we deviated from the command's written award guidance in the sailor's favor was when said sailor's LCPO was on the awards board. Response: Durrrrrrrr....HE'S GETTING A COMM!

It also helps if your CPO can write. Awards too. Deck Division on USS Last always got the shaft because BMC was barely literate and so was CMC. I got praised on the regular for having my troops win "Region SOQ" because I speek gud English and can write effectively. This CMC said "bambalance" seriously. Also "deer in a headlock."

It helps when your Chief has done, can relate to or has an idea of what you do to properly write it up or evaluate your work. I turned in my evals and got a call a month later asking for a simpler explanation of my job, then afterwards in the eval brief realized she was being as vague as possible with me because she still didn't know what I did and didn't want to ask. Granted I'll never get more than a P anyway because I don't have my community's made-up warfare device so deskdwellers could feel an ounce more Navy. Which I'm still held to the rule for, despite that I've been back to back TDY over a year somewhere nobody can qualify me in it anyway
