Well, there goes the Hall of Fame...
My selection criteria, in order from most to least important:

1. Can I put Gravity Well on it?
2. Does it look good with the Reman shields on it?
3. Does it look at least decent with the M.A.C.O. shields on it? (Honor Guard shields are a given.)
4. Can I actually use Gravity Well effectively on it?

The last ships I opened on Holodeck were the Voth ships, even though I own at least one of each of the ships that came out after it (and played with them on Tribble, the Try Before You Open option). That's mostly because I flew the Recluse before Romulans went live, opened one on my new primary character (Romulan Engineer), and just managed to sleepwalk through everything afterwards.

I'm also fond of the following gravscorts (escorts that can fit Gravity Well), from most to least favorite:
Fleet Ar'Kif
Undine Nicor / Temporal Destroyer
Fleet Dhelan
Fleet Aquarius Light Escort
Mirror Escort Retrofit (even though it can't be upgraded)
Fleet Advanced Escort

(I play Fed-side mostly, as the KDF gravscort options were far more limited before.)

What ships would be good for making a gimmick exotic damage build? The new lockbox traits all seem focused around that, as does the Delta rep weapon set.

I use a Fleet Nebula, set up like this:

The weapons are all Romplas, CrtD2 apart from the experimental beam. The science consoles are all embassy partgens, and with the particle exciter I end up with 305 partgen skill. My doffs are 3 deflector cooldown guys, an aftershock grav well guy and a beam cooldown guy. I could squeeze out a few more partgens from the Solanae deflector but I really like the defense from the 2 piece Undine set. I've got the science crafting trait so my grav wells crit really often. I've also got Positive Feedback, which is pretty handy.

There may be ships that put out more exotic damage, like the Intrepid has another lieutenant commander lot for FBP or TBR, but I find it to be a pretty good balance between survivability with its 68k hull and 12k Dyson shield and pure damage. That said, if someone less dumb than me has a better way set this up that'd be cool.

Apart from telling me not to play science :colbert:

I'd also really like to see how much that Delta Alliance rep set cannon's damage changes based on partgens.

Good news. Now that people realized the Tau Dewa patrols were the only things that weren't grinds against sacks of HP to get XP, Cryptic has since hotfixed it by disabling all the tau dewa patrols without warning. :toot:

What goddamn children. I can't imagine why they're doubling down so hard (the reward changes on tribble don't actually fix the fundamental issues of advanced queues being tedious and with a much higher chance of failure than before) and it has to be some fuckwits at PWE forcing them.

Wow. I called it, but even I didn't expect them to nerf it so quickly. I figured we'd at least have until Thursday morning.

I honestly have no idea why they want people to take a long time leveling. All the grindy stuff which would encourage people to buy zen applies just as much at max level as it does before. Even the XP boosts are still worth it thanks to specializations.

I wonder how long it'll take them to figure out that their elite ground STFs aren't really any more difficult than they were before DR.

I found a way around this. Go into launcher options and turn off On-demand patching. Then go to Star Trek Online/Live/piggs/texture.hogg and delete texture.hogg. Restart the launcher and allow the launcher to update your game with a new texture.hogg file. An hour later, all fixed.

I can forgive the long leveling times. The thing is, it's just ultimately dancing around the real critical problem that Delta Rising introduced, and that Cryptic seems terrified to address: space combat is no longer fun. The reason everyone jumped on Tau Dewa while it lasted is because it was quick and entertaining as opposed to grinding the delta patrols, and not impossible to pug like the loving advanced queues.

If Cryptic doesn't roll stuff back the playerbase is just going to bail, soon, once everyone realizes that actual endgame progress isn't fun anymore. I've been sorely tempted to; as it is I'm just not going to bother with the Delta rep since both Borg Disconnected and Bug Hunt are abominable to PUG with the easy failure conditions, and even if those were like pre-expansion queues then you'd still need to pay 35k per item and another 30+k per item to get them to MkXII. Why even bother?

I solo the open world mission that constantly spawns Vaadwaur on top of you (required to finish a story mission, great loving design decision Cryptic) by suicide rushing the objectives, because of course there is no one else around to help*.

I FINALLY FINISH! I GET THE REWARD FOR FINISHING THE OPEN WORLD QUEST!

I CAN FINALLY GET OFF THIS CORPSE STINKING poo poo HOLE!

Yeah, I'm not getting how this is supposed to work, the costs to upgrade a single ship to Mk XIV, let alone go Gold is nearing Wesley high, and aren't most pubbies kinda poor? Even if you open up the wallet for Zen/EC/Dil you're looking at whale level spending just to gear up to get......less reward? When the Devs said PWE was pushing for a crafting revamp since they bought out Cryptic, I'm assuming this is what they were after but short of just making GBS threads dil at players I don't see how they can roll this back.

The only thing I can think of is they want people to buy dilithium. Lots and lots of dilithium, for lots and lots of real money.

Cryptic just forgot they needed a game to actually play to justify it.

I'm thinking pwe forgot considering the apparent lack of story missions for all of 10 levels. Or at least, that is what I've been understanding so far from here. It sounds like sto launch era in terms of a lack of content to cover you the entire way through all over again.

Yeah if you're not farming dil on multiple characters you probably just want to get your gear up to mk xiii and forget about it. There's not a hell of a lot of difference getting that extra mark and forcing quality upgrades is nearly a vanity fleet sized dil sink.

I've mentioned it a few times, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the whole expansion and a lot of its "improvements" was forced down Cryptic's neck and basically rushed to completion. For all of Cryptic's flaws they've usually been pretty smart about things, and for the past year or two they've actually gone out of their way to make things more accessible and fun to play. Good example would be making the event ships get a massive discount for alts once you've finished the event job. But here... well, they shoved in two different big cash sinks (ship upgrades and item upgrades) and then made enemies scale stupidly and reduced the reward and made queues more tedious and unreliable. It's just absolutely baffling. If they wanted more difficult content then the elite queues would have been fine, but then why gently caress up the advanced ones?

But yeah. Speaking from experience it's not... quite as bad as launch STO, but that's only because elite queues take twenty minutes instead of two hours like the old STFs. But nobody was asking for these changes, and somehow Cryptic's managed to undo two years of improvements and a lot of very, very hard won goodwill in a single patch.
