I'm not a comics guy either, but basically Ultron is a homicidal AI. In the comics he was created by a scientist named Hank Pym, but his movie origin will be that he's an AI Stark made (or possibly got from elsewhere, a synopsis mentions Stark 'reviving a dormant peacekeeping program'). Basically, after Iron Man 3 Stark doesn't want to be Iron Man anymore, so he makes an army of drones called the Iron Legion, led by the Ultron AI, to protect the Earth. Ultron reasons that the Avengers, and humans, are the problem, and the best way to protect the Earth is to render them extinct. The Avengers take issue with this.

The alien from the Avengers teaser (and Guardians of the Galaxy) is Thanos. He is the major villain of the Marvel movie saga and will eventually fight the Avengers personally, but as far as we know Ultron is unrelated to him. How Age of Ultron will factor into the Thanos arc or if it will at all is unknown.

Yeah, it's called the Hulkbuster armour. Its purpose is pretty much all there in the name. Apparently it never really works in the comics though.

Yeah, Hulkbuster is not something usually used to defeat the Hulk so much as engage him and hopefully get Banner to calm the gently caress down, or with other heroes to subdue him.

Yep, even May was reporting on him behind his back. Coulson even said something to this effect in the season finale. But honestly it kind of goes with the territory when dealing with super spies.

I assume that it will lead to SHIELD getting more power. That the killer robot idea did not work, so lets go back to humans being in charge. It could also push them further underground as we can not trust anyone or anything connected to the Avengers, and this Shield incantation is that.

They'll spend an episode implying that the Earth is under attack from killer robots, but never show one on screen for more than like five seconds.

No, that was the Thor: The Dark World crossover episode. The Captain America: The Winter Soldier episode was super-involved with the movie and completely changed the show for the better.

Following that trajectory, the actual climax of Age of Ultron will take place in Agents of SHIELD, which will then go on to be the best television show that has ever existed.

Well, we actually don't know what the back half of ABC's schedule looks like. Depending on when AoS comes back from break and how many breaks they take in the spring, the season could be over before Age of Ultron comes out.

Seasons usually end in May, so it would be ending right as the movie comes out or right after. It might be even later since Carter will also be airing.

It depends. Last year, the finale was May 13th and they took 15 weeks of breaks throughout the season. If Agent Carter is 13 episodes and they run straight through, it would actually have them finishing up before the movie. They may also overlap at least the first (and possibly the last) episode of Agent Carter with AoS to lead in and out which could have it end mid April then.

They did say they were going to be taking fewer breaks this year, so we'll just have to see how scheduling pans out. My bet is that they finish up RIGHT before the events of Age of Ultron with possibly the finale leaving them in a position to get horribly screwed by the events of the movie. That would leave a nice cliffhanger that ties into the greater continuity without being hamstrung by it and Season 3 would start with them picking up the pieces.

There will be a couple weeks off due to holidays. If both shows take anything more than one week off then it would end at the same time.
