Same, ish. I work on clusters and such, I've even mucked around on BlueGene (L and P), but my personal computers consist of:

* 4 year old desktop that I tried to build semi-decently with a 6 core AMD and (finally upgraded) 16GB of RAM. Sees a lot less use now that I'm married. Finally moved the root disk from a 200GB IDE to 500GB SATA.
* 5 year old netbook that mostly serves as my "oh poo poo, I need a Linux prompt" system when my desktop is booted to Windows; screen stays off, I just ssh in.
* 4 year old ARM netbook that I keep on the coffee table. Probably gets as much use as anything else because I can ssh to my VPS. It's a bit too wimpy to run X well, and the company seems to be out of business these days so there's no kernel updates, so I just leave it on the console.

She could have expressed this jealous/possessive/suspicious bullshit any time in the last 4 months since my friend, who happens to be female, asked me to officiate. I tried explaining that we've known each other for 20 years and see each other basically as siblings and there is no way we'd ever gently caress, not to mention the fact that it's her loving WEDDING, but none of that matters apparently. If she'd asked me over for a barbecue or to watch a movie, I could see being suspicious about her motive, but I think officiating her wedding is about the most chaste thing she could ask. She seems to think that just because I have a dick and balls, I'd gently caress anything that moves, forgetting the fact that she's the only person I've ever been with.

This is all from the person who has been yelling about a divorce for months and how she can't wait to be rid of me. I'm really struggling to find a reason to care about her issue with my friend.

The laptop was my bonus, company was struggling with IT and I came in and cleaned everything up and simplified management and reliability within a month. They were quite happy.

I'm running two 1TB Hybrid disks and a 256GB mSATA SSD, alongside the Inte i7-4800MQ and 32GB DDR3L, with an AMD FirePro M6100 PCI-e 2GB graphics card, fully upgrade-able to a Nvidia Quadro down the road.

Its been awesome, as I can copy troublesome VMs and take them on the road with me for troubleshooting when I leave a clients office and have even had to run it as a temporary server until we go a replacement CPU for a server.

It's bushings and/or airbags damping the link between a trailer and a truck, applied to the truck side, so both the 'why didn't I think of that?' and the 'tweekers gonna steal it' thoughts apply. Any of you guys have experience with powerline ethernet adapters? There's one computer in the house that just refuses to get good speeds, even sitting on the router. Plug it in and it nails 85mbit, but on wireless it's only doing 5mbit in its usual location, 10 in front of the router. Everything in the house is 802.11n, and the router is set to N only.

There's a TP Link 200mbit set that's cheap and looks like it'll do the trick. We need to be able to pull about 15-20mbit through it, at most. It'll be a lot easier than pulling cable across the house.

So I had a phone interview set up with a major retailer. It was for Saturday.

Woke up today to 10 missed calls. From 6 stores within this retailer. Only 2 people bothered to leave a voicemail - one was clear, polite, and easy to understand, and the position I want. The other was a lot of mumbling that I couldn't understand.

Going to call the person who left the polite, easy to understand voicemail back first thing in the morning. I slept in today, she was gone by the time I tried to call back. :saddowns:

You need two outlets on the same circuit for the ethernet over power adapters to work, and hopefully the wiring in your house isn't dodgy. I'm using a pair of netcomm units (not sure of the exact model) and they work pretty well, haven't had any complaints. I've got no experience with the TP Link units but they seem to be pretty decent.

Also, I got snapchat set up cause everyone seems to be using it. Add me as thelettereph and make me regret it :v:.
