Right now they'll be ignoring anything that doesn't come out before Christmas. Then after Christmas they'll have a Nintendo Direct give more details, a few disappointing release dates and announce a surprise game that come out like a week after the direct which will be mostly forgotten about shortly after release.

Bayonetta 1's were funny and good so if 2's are better I can't wait. And I hear there's cats in this one so that's good too.

Nah, Grace and Glory are probably the hardest enemy to deal with in the game. Just wait till you get to the versions that don't give you witch time!

No, that's Grace and Glory and they give everyone trouble.

If you haven't learned air juggles that helps a bit. Mostly you just have to be ready to dodge and beat them up in Witch Time.

Also, I haven't got very far in Bayonetta 2 but the story is simpler and more coherent. Maybe I'm dumb or something but I didn't get Bayonetta 1's story at all until around the third time through the game. Just a bunch of fights and weird stuff and Eyes and Cereza and flashbacks that didn't make any sense. I'm still not sure I completely understand it.

The core story is simpler but trying to figure out the details will make your eyes cross.

I'm trying to figure out this story in bayonetta 1 but every time there's a cutscene, after about 15 seconds my eyes glaze over and suddenly wake up to find myself in a completely different arena with no idea what's going on. Then I feel really stupid like when I took the reading comprehension sections on the SAT. Maybe some adderall would help with this game

There are no major plot elements of the first game. Bayonetta has amnesia and is just kind of stumbling around for the entire game. The only reason she does things is because the path behind her just got covered in rocks and there's no other way to go.

It's honestly a genuinely more accessible and mechanically better designed game, although W101 has a lot of charm and a bit more creativity in its level design. Bayonetta 2 is better than both though.

Bayonetta herself is a satirical character and I think it's very easy to read the nonsense story as satire of dumb Japanese video game writing. I found it so funny because it hits so many dumb familiar notes and then she gives a motorcycle the finger.

Both the character and story are effective satire exactly because so many people took them so seriously.

That's Grace and Glory, they suck rear end and the one Alfheim where you have limited punches and kicks and have to take out a set of them is the worst and I was really worried I was gonna break my finger trying to do that one. Their brothers, Gracious and Glorious are absolute dicks though, gently caress them so loving hard, I used up like 5 continues just trying to beat them in Chapter 10.

I somehow did that one on my first try. I don't know how that happened either.

Some of the Alfeim's I just sort of laugh at and leave. I spent like half an hour doing the "stay in the air for 20 seconds" one. I later got to the "stay in the air for 1 minute one" and I just sort of stared at it and made my way for the exit. No way that's gonna happen anytime soon.

The best tip I can give is what I gave earlier: put the claws on your feet. The fire claws on the feet will leave behind bombs if you hold the button down at the end of a comma and those bombs just sort of devastate enemies.

Those guys are assholes. The best you can do is dodge and hope you don't get hit by their "Ha ha, now we're taking away half your life bar!" combo move.

Well, there are also some accessories that you can use, but unless you've been hoarding your rings you probably haven't even bought one of those by the time you reach them.

Here's how you do the limited punches + kicks alfheims: Learn to dodge offset, and extend all the punches and kicks you do.

The stay in the air for 1 minute alfheim is easy because by that point you should have the whip, and if you hold down punch with the whip it snares enemies towards you. Jump off them and you should have that one very easily.

I'll admit the very first 'stay in the air' alfheim you meet is hard because it requires a bit of setup, but it's absolutely doable on your first time playing.

Honestly, the answer to almost anything related to 'why do I suck at Bayonetta' can be answered with 'learn to dodge offset'. G&G are weak against the uppercut WW in the PPKP combo or the sweeping trips in the PPPKKK combo so if you dodge offset correctly you can set up those actions without a problem.

Hah, I never got the whip.

Shame on me for not realizing that the Grace & Glory claws should go on the feet.

I promise I'll put a little more effort into Bayonetta 2. I kind of just wanted to get through Bayo 1 so I had a frame of reference for the next game.

What does WW mean? Wicked Weave? Does weapon choice matter here, because different weapons have different combos, right?

WW = Wicked Weave, yes. Whatever weapon you use shouldn't matter, because ultimately the combos act the same regardless of what weapons you have equipped (they changed this up a little in the sequel) but when it comes to G&G, the faster you are, the better. I'd use anything but the whip, kilgore or fire durga on the hands.

Really, the best weapon combo for new players is Shuraba/fire durga. It kills angels fast. Equip kilgore on the feet to your other set and you can use the kilgore glitch to really trivialise the game.

G&G refers to either Grace and Glory or Gracious and Glorious, the clawed enemies people hate fighting, PPKP is punch, punch, kick, punch, it's a combo string, dodge offset is basically dodging mid-combo, then resuming the combo from where you left off. For example, if you do the PPKP combo and dodge after the second punch, if you don't do a dodge offset, when you press kick, you'll start a new combo, but if you dodge offset, you'll resume the combo from where you left off. I think it's done by holding down the button of the last attack you pressed as you dodge.
