I haven't heard of this issue. If I were to guess, it's either APN settings, a bad set of SIM's, or bad provisioning on the system. All of which can be resolved with a trip to the store.

Probably bad provisioning I guess. I'm going to a local store I've had good experiences with in the past for a new SIM anyways.

This was where I first read about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/att-incapable-setting-lte-data-pure-t2888108

So there's pretty much zero chance that the Nexus 6 will ever become a phone that can be purchased through Next, correct?

I'm ditching my GoPhone plan to go on a shared data plan on AT&T with my girlfriend and her mom to save money (and get more data,) and I was pretty much deciding between the new Moto X and the Nexus 6.

But the reveal that the Nexus 6 is going to be priced much higher than previous Nexus phones means the Moto X probably wins, since I can essentially do a 0% interest payment plan on it.

But if AT&T does offer the Nexus 6 in-store through Next, then I might go with that...screen's a tad larger than I would like, but all the specs are better than the Moto X...

But $650 is a lot to pay out of pocket all at once.

Edit: Looks like it may be offered?
http://www.att.com/cellphones/motorola/nexus-6.html

Transferred my phone # to her plan today, went off without a hitch. Looks like my cell phone costs are down from just over $60 after taxes and fees per month to under $50 (the plan is $160 before any taxes or fees, so that's $40+taxes+fees per person...probably works out to like $44 or $45.)

I like saving money. :c00l:

Hey just curious if anyone has worked at an AT&T retail store as an RSC and what your experience was? I've sold phones at a few places now, one being working for a company hired by Samsung to sell at their storefronts in Best Buy. I've been in sales/customer service for 3 years now and took a cushy office job thinking it'd be good but I'm making jack poo poo for the amount of work I do and honestly it's HVAC and not some sort of technology haha.

Yup,I worked as a RSC for two years (moved up recently). Overall I loved it. The only downside is it gets repetitive: your only goal is literally sell to customers. It can also get stressful since ATT sets very high goals. But honestly, the job isn't that hard, and it pays very well for its level.

The biggest thing is you need to be open to selling company initiatives. If the company wants you to sell beats music, get your attach rates up, you always need good insurance and accessory numbers, and you need to be ok with selling home security (an extremely hard sell).

But if you're flexible, it's Union so you get guaranteed raises every 6 months until you cap, career growth is good, and you can make good money. It's not as corporate feeling as you would think either. I over exceeded about 5 out of 12 months out of the year on commission myself. I worked at best buy myself briefly, and the pay difference between best buy and corp wireless retail is just laughable, I think I made about 3 times the income at ATT vs Best Buy.

I sold phones at Sam's Club for almost 2 years, with the initiative being "Sell 3 phones a day", no attach rates, no plan upgrades, but also no commission. Honestly I'm not a great seller and haven't had much sales training or goals but very good with customer service and satisfaction. The only thing I'm hesitant about is going back to working weekends but if they're average RSC income is to be believed then that's an incredibly huge raise from what I'm making now.

How did you get promoted and what do you do? Thanks by the way for answering my question!

This should be right if i calculated your 19% work discount correctly, and you dont have any 2 year contracts that started after the first week of February.

Thanks a lot! That's a decent discount, although if I switched to that I'd no longer be eligible for subsidies, correct? Funny that the savings works out to almost exactly the cost of a new iPhone :P

You'll be eligible for subsidies, though I wouldn't recommend them.
Based on that plan, AT&T is giving you a $25 discount per smartphone line for not having started another subsidy since FEB. If you do another 2 year contract, the $25 discount goes away for 24 months.

For example, you subsidize a iPhone 6 down to $199 with a 2 year contract. The loss in discounts plus the cost of the phone plus the upgrade fee will cost you more than the phone retails for. $25 x 24 months = $600, plus the $199 you pay in store, plus a $40 upgrade fee. That's $839 for a $650 phone.

If you buy a phone on Next, are your options 1. make only the monthly payment or 2. pay in full? What if I bought a Nexus 6 and wanted to put like $300 toward it and finance the rest? Is it just "keep that $300 in my bank account and make the monthly payments"? This may be a dumb question. Since it is 0% interest, maybe the best idea would be to just pay monthly anyway or if I'm buying outright, just go to Google directly?

You can pay it off whenever but it has to be paid in full but it's zero interest and doesn't show up as a line of credit on your credit report so there is zero downside to just making the monthly payments.

I got this off Slickdeals and didn't see anyone mention it so I thought I'd post it up. AT&T is apparently running some sort of promotion available only through retentions to double your data for free. Initially it sounded like it was only available for mobile share plans but people in the SD thread are posting that their individual data lines are also getting doubled. All you have to do is call and talk to retentions. I said I had been thinking of switching but heard about this data doubling promotion and if I were to get that I would stick around without an explicit threat of canceling that instant. The rep filled in some blanks about switching to sprint or something like that as well as me being a long time valuable customer and that was it. 5 minute tops with zero push back. The thread is mostly stories exactly like that with a couple here and there having issues but I would probably attribute that to people not knowing how to have a normal conversation or not actually talking to retentions. The doubling doesn't expire either unless you switch your plan.

I have the $130 15GB Mobile Share Value Plan, I was able to bump it up to 30GB for the same price by walking into an AT&T Store a couple of weeks ago and mentioning the promotion outlined earlier in the thread. Apparently Sprint is offering 60GB for $130, but when I called AT&T they said I was ineligible for the newer promotion due to the double data promotion I had been given previously. Maybe that's as good as it gets, maybe I hosed it up when I called AT&T.

Can you even use that much data on sprint? At 56kbps you can get about 17 GB per month if you utilized it fully at all times. And that is about the speed you get on sprint in my area, 56kbps.

I will admit, as a business customer, I will pay more for a data circuit from a competitor because of the smug bullshit assholes that I regularly have to deal with at AT&T. On my personal poo poo I have AT&T wireless, but that is probably because it just works and I have never had to call in to get support on anything.

I'm with AT&T right now, and my contract has been up for quite awhile. Since coverage is super important to me, I was considering going to Verizon, but it looks like AT&T has really improved their LTE coverage since I last checked (at least in my area). Verizon always brags about their coverage being better, but just based on their sites' maps, it looks like AT&T is now ahead of Verizon. Is there some coverage map fuckery going on here?

No. It will always depend on where you are at, but ATT coverage overall has gotten much better in a lot of areas. They took the network complaints from back when the 3GS and 4 were out very seriously from what I can tell.

I asked this in the Android thread, but didn't get a response. I'm very interested in buying a Nexus 6 when they come out. Is there any advantage in buying the phone from AT&T instead of direct from the Google Play store? Will the AT&T version have AT&T apps and other crap installed on it? Has AT&T said anything about when they're going to release the Nexus 6? I assume it's going to be sometime after Google's Oct. 29th release date.

Now that the iPhone rush is done with, I figure I'll ask this again. Is there any way I can bump my upgrade eligibility from December to now?

I was able to upgrade from the 3G to the 4, from the 4 to the 4S and again from the 4S to the 5 without waiting 2 years. Now this time I've actually waited (almost) 2 years with my iPhone 5 and they're telling me I need to wait exactly 2 years. I'm guessing this is because of their stupid AT&T Next thing.

Most likely they would just get rid of "unlimited" at the next renewals, since the FTC says that would be a valid option.
