You need to walk over that blue slim they leave behind when you kill them, that's how you keep them from respawning, else they will respawn for each blue patch left unchecked within 4-5 turns or whatever. Before I realised this, I managed to get so many blue jellies spawned in the Bloated Grotto that the game was noticeably slowing down

Finished first 3 dungeons! Here is things. BUGS? Sliding across goo, which is what I assume happens, should be more visually clear. A sliding animation, a little SLIDE sound effect. Just have it move slower would be fine too. Perhaps like the charge animation? It doesn't become a problem after like five minutes, but it's not super clear. Broke leaves in a corner, heard mushroom spawning sound but none spawned possibly due to it being in the corner or bottom of screen? Told me freezing shovel was available in shop, when it already was there. I didn't see the boss, but my summoned monsters were beating on it without it acting against. When I finally found it it was half dead and hadn't done anything. When a goatman charges into fog of war, you can see him for a turn. I could see him, and could not throw my pitchfork in his direction. Also, he could later charge at me OUT of fog of war and my only warning was the sound, this is different as enemies in fog of war aren't active normally, but ones who enter it, are. THOUGHTS Why is there's white space at the bottom of dialogue? : S Raoko dialogue was rad. Worried of advancement, but it feels very desktop dungeon which handled it very well but it also feels necessary with HP/Level Up unlocks. Mushroom dialogue was hilarious. To advance dialogue I'd like to be able to click anywhere! gently caress scroll of wonder, gently caress that I have to use every single one I see. Problem is, can't I just start the first dungeon with one, use it it farm treasure for each class? The enemies are pretty cool so far, each brings their own tactical elements that you learn naturally as you face them. Identical items should unlock across classes imo. The first dungeon has the same quality of loot as the last one (as far as I can tell), and vastly easier enemies.

So got my first hardcore finish on necrodancer. Great game. But the finish was with the boots of speed, which is a round-a-bout way of saying... I have no idea what was going on in zone 3, but that looked really hard. I'd love to watch someone better than me actually do that properly. Also, god if like 50%+ of my runs didn't end in red dragons. gently caress those guys. edit: and now I'm spoiling myself with the wiki. I was pretty confident the sacrifice shrine was the sword in the stone, and I needed to have ring of might or gigantism to get it out. That was totally wrong haha. Approach red dragons from above or below. If you're to the side, carefully retreat until you can arrange verticality. There's a way to dance around them in open rooms if nothing else is around, but it requires knowing their timing cold and taunting them into using their breath weapon. I don't generally bother. My last successful Hardcore run, I started Zone 3 with plate armor, a helmet, a potion, 3.5 out of 4 hearts, and an obsidian crossbow...about 30 turns later the potion was gone and I had 1 heart left. Zone 3 can beat your face in if you get a bad start. The crossbow didn't help much, since it takes at least 3 shots to take down a skeleton rider and you only get three shots between reloads. And then once you get hit, its damage goes way down... Fortunately the second and third levels were kinder. I mostly just made a beeline for the stairs. That compass can be an excellent investment, considering it's so cheap.

I can answer any of your questions about Necrodancer. I'm the current speedrun WR holder (and came in third in the big tournament that ended yesterday) The best thing to do in zone 3 is to kite all the enemies into the shop if it's available. Generally you want something like a titanium longsword or spear since it's super reliable and fixed damage. Obsidian sucks if you get hit or blow a beat and glass breaks, and two damage is all you need for 90% of enemies.

Which is neither a good thing nor a bad thing, just not what appeals to me about the genre. The absurd amount of content and mechanics that are shoved into them is what attracted me in the first place. Heads up, it's by the Caves of Qud people, and it's only meant to look like that to outsiders to get new people to try the genre. It's actually pretty indepth and complex when you get into it.

While I would characterize the latter half of Sproggiwood as being reasonably tricky, I did also beat the game in 3 hours, and beat the last level with all classes in about 5-6 (both according to Steam's clock). I had fun and don't regret the purchase in the slightest, but it is a bit content-light, and a reasonably seasoned roguelike player won't take long to see everything there is. Unless I'm missing a secret cow level, of course.

I'm having a minor issue with Sproggiwood on OS X where my CPU is chugging (i7 4650u, fan at maximum, lowest battery life) in the town view, while it's more than fine in the menus and in the "combat" view. I haven't tested on other OS though.

[Beta] *Updated to Unity 4.5.5 *^ Fixed all the alt+tab issues! *Tab will now switch between walking and non/walking modes, walking allows movement with keys held down *Increased the size of the haunted mansion to 2x3 from 2x2 *Fixed vsync being incorrectly disabled in town (causing tearing/unnecessary laptop power usage) If anyone tries out the mac version and it doesn't die horribly, could you let me know? We've tested the win/linux version and they seem solid. Olivil, you should be able to test the chugging issue with that build as well, to see if it gets fixed.

My favorite roguelike is Dungeon Crawl and the only thing I don't like about it is the handling of hunger levels (so much so that I usually play mummy now just to be done with eating). I recently found Dungeons of Dredmor and though it is a real generally simple offering I really enjoy the "class" creation system of mix and match seven skill trees. What other things should I be trying?

Should Ziggurat talk go in here? I've really been enjoying the game so far, but I'm pretty bad at it. I've only made it to the 4th floor 3 times and died to the boss there once. I've been doing some runs with different characters that I've unlocked (the Harlequin and Seer), but I can't help but think that the Novice is by far the best character so far... Kinda makes me not want to play the other characters...

I still refuse to buy any more early access games, except for Dungeonmans because MadMcMadman is a competent developer. Just way too many Early Access games will never release and I'm tired of playing incomplete games and getting burnt out before they are feature/content complete. In other news, Dungeons of the Endless released and it has co-op. Bad news is you can't save the game during co-op and you can't make private games.

TOME. Less because it's like Dreadmor (although there is an option to just grab whatever skill trees you want from any class once you've beaten the game once) and more because it doesn't have a hunger system.

If you play locally and know how to compile stuff, hacking out hunger is super easy. Doesn't even need coding skills, just one extra line in a specific file.

Ziggurat is out of Early access as of last week, fwiw. I've never bought an early access game myself for much the same reasons and didn't know Ziggurat had been in EA untill after I've played a couple of hours. So far, very fun game. Reminds me a lot of BoI, but with maybe less randomness and less interesting items. So far, I've unlocked about 25-30% of the items/weapons in the game, and most of them feel very same-y. Also, enemy variety isn't that great, at least in the first 2 levels, which you'll be playing a lot of. However, the gameplay itself, the unlocking of items and overall feel of the game is very polished, and I find myself returning to it for a couple of floors every hour or so since I've bought it.
