theres prob a better thread for this but im kinda hoping jonny loves truckstop rv and antenna repair will chime in cause i remember him having some fancy dc power setup. i think i wanna do a run from the car battery into the cabin to power an inverter and ham gear. I don't rly know what all is involved w/ that. I'd want to be able to connect/disconnect stuff @ will and also would want to be able to have a lil 3 way toggle switch that was always on/relay/always off. obvs i want to get the correct gauge wire and fuses and whatnot but im not rly sure where to start and how much it woudl cost kinda related but also eventually i may add a deep cycle battery cause apparently there's a factory spot for a second battery. is the $200ish delayed relay isolator or w/e the only correct way to go? that kinda kills the budget for a aux power system that would hardly ever get used (im actually a prepper).

im gonna make a discone for my sdr dongles cause im not picking up 700mhz stuff as well as i'd like to w/ the included antennas: using these dimensions it should look something like this: im using 14 gauge stainless steel tie wire instead of coathangers tho. i hope my lovely soldering iron is up to the task of soldering that to a washer, tho i read that wrapping stripped cat6 wire around the joints and soldering that might work better? i dont have any mcx adapters yet (slowboating from china atm). i was wondering if i can just disassemble the included antenna and connect both of them to the discone at the same time. since its just RX it should be fine right?

As for my radio status, we have been working hard to winterize and I have not really gotten on much. however I do have the 102" whip running through a tuner to the Icom 735. Cool facts: --Colorado is 0-land for callsigns and it is weird --oh my god I can hear California guys all the time now --oh my god is that NZ --what, that ham is japanese --Denver has a 10 meter FM repeater and it's loving cool. haven't gotten on it yet but i can listen a bunch The 10-20 meter HF whip is extended but not hooked up, I have to bolt up a grounding strap. antennas dont like not having counterpoises and will poo poo RF back to the radio hard

Hey Jonny, I picked up a BCD396XT and am looking to replace the rubber duck that came with. Since I can't put any wires up for a proper antenna, what's a good (moderately pricey) replacement? I'm trying to find something else to listen to other than the Metro bus drivers puttering around town yelling about breakdowns and the police responding to stray dog calls.
