Only DJs will care what format you use to play music. Dickhead DJs will talk poo poo about you using controllers and such, these are usually the mongs who will have 'DJ' in their names on facebook and have gently caress all else going on in their lives of interest. They learned how to beatmatch vinyl years ago and still lord it over people like it's some kind of huge talent. gently caress 'em, the public don't give a poo poo how you feed them tunes just as long as your track selection is tight. gently caress one of the best DJ sets I've seen was Esta in the Boiler Room, dude can't beatmatch for poo poo but the tune selection was loving amazing and the crowd were going apeshit for it and quite rightly so.

The only time I get buthurt about gear selection is when it's painfully obvious the DJ has no clue what his own gear does. I've seen a few people do start/stop, one track at a time, no-mixing or fading sets on 4 channel poo poo that costs more than $800. It's sorta like, "Ok, you're just trying to be terrible." As long as you're not Paris Hilton, gently caress the haters.

Alright, ethical question regarding the video at the top of this page. I refer later in the video that I built my template in response to other templates being bloated, buggy, and containing ads. Not 12 hours after posting, the curator of the template I was referring to (not by name, mind you) sent me an email saying they were "...disappointed that you felt the need to be negative about three years of work of mine..." Should I re-do the video to omit that? I never mentioned the product by name, and I think it's a major selling point for my work. I'm 50/50 on this one.

19 o'clock posted:Alright, ethical question regarding the video at the top of this page. Nah, screw him. I watched your video and I liked the workflow of your template. I'm sure there will be many more APC40MKII templates to come out and my point of view is the more the merrier. I was surprised to hear someone would even have the balls to release a monetized controller template. It makes no sense whatsoever to bog down a template with ANYTHING that would affect overall performance (especially when it's for gear that DEPENDS on good reliable performance). You weren't even that negative about it, but merely talked about your own experience using it and how it kept crashing and screwed up one of your live performances. The guy should take it as constructive criticism. If you posted a video simply tearing apart his template, not presenting any work of your own, then it might be a different situation.

Dude has emailed me a few times already and accused me of stealing code. I'm excited to see where this ends up. If he gets really fussy about it I'll just release it all for free. Ultimately I just needed something that worked for me. 19 o'clock fucked around with this message at 17:51 on Oct 17, 2014 |

Had a GREAT gig last Sat night. Room full of people, wife estimated 50~75 people. Oh yeah Only messed up once, when I confused the MASTER level knob with the cue/master headphone knob, and turned the volume way down (DDJ-SR, they're stacked right next to each other). Oops. Imma paint the master knob red or glow-in-the-dark, was kind of embarrassing and cannot happen again!

There are few things in this world as sweet as a 25% off beatport coupon that you can reuse (HELPMEDDJT, two uses, expires nov 1st I think) (in before someone states the obvious that other stores are cheaper)

^^ that made me go looking at old DMC stuff and this just blew my mind... DJ Kentaro 2002. The way he turns the decks off and still scratches a tune, the way he manipulates a straight beat and turns into into a different style of music, it's just a loving masterclass. http://youtu.be/HGb5agYBX50

Shadow is so good. I was kinda bummed I saw him play here at a free concert but he was pandering to the crowd so he didn't get too crazy with it. Wise move on his part considering the crowd but I'm sure seeing him at an underground club or something would have been way better. Fortunately QBert is playing a venue that fits maybe 200 people on a good day and tends to have a lot of local scene shows. Last time I was there for a Skrillex afterparty and it was one of the best non-rap crowds I've ever seen. (Hip Hop fans know how to loving rock)

The DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist tour just got extended so I'd check and see if they're coming through your area if you want to see what they can pull off with records. QBert's coming through Atlanta in a couple weeks so I'll probably go out to that if I have time.

Me and my mate Stu did our first back to back the other night on another mates radio. He uses Tracktor and a vestax controller and I use CD's and serato, so we had some proper-go-betweening with the set, but it came out great overall and it's got a real nice dynamic to it. Some stuff for us to learn from but it's definitely a way to get in the zone and challenge yourself.
