Re: Nathaniel, the plot with the Dwarves should only show if he died in DAO. Some imports from DAO->DA2 were bugged and allowed him to live and the plot to occur, but that was an import bug and not correct.

Well, there was that motion comic thing for ME 2 on consoles that left out a bunch of stuff :v:

I agree the keep is a super slick way to do import stuff even if we know bioware won't make it pay off much.

ME2 Genesis left off a bunch of choices but that was fine. It already let you import a saved game which contained the big decisions and all the small ones like whether you did sidequest X. I think the idea was that either (a) you played ME1 and had that save handy for import, or (b) you didn't and wouldn't have any idea who the heck Fist was and why you'd care if he was alive or not, or whether you helped Parasini so you could get a minor sidequest.

The main Keep feature - the Varric story - is basically the same as Genesis; it focuses on the bigger decisions like whether you supported Great Leader Blehen and his reign of terror, or Lord Harrowmont who didn't throw a bunch of poor people into a meatgrinder to reclaim thaigs that they couldn't defend anyway. :colbert: All the sidequest stuff is at the end and while it has nice art like Sten going  getting his sword back, it's mostly because there isn't a proper import system for all those small decisions.

I do agree that overall Keep is better because it presents the narrative really well, and does let you play with minor choices in case you want to see what happens if you pissed in the Ashes without having to play a really long game again and then having to replay DA2 on top of that if you wanted to import whatever Hawke did.

When the devs were still pretending Hawke's appearance wasn't a sure thing they made vague confirmations like "well IF we had a recurring hero and I'm not saying we are LOOOOOL you could totally change their face. but only IF"

they said "IF you could, you would change it in game, not in the Keep" I think.

Basically DA2's tapestry is easy because you just go to Act 3, decide if you kill the dragon or not and whose side you take, and then it'll autopopulate the dependencies in previous acts. Then you set how you wanted companions to turn out (whose dead and who's angry, etc). Then you can glance over the other acts and tiles and just kind of shrug your shoulders and/or pick stuff at random.

What I find a bit tedious is setting the minor quests in Orzammar and Denerim. There's a lot of niggly poo poo in those categories.

I did. I did a horrible dwarf noble run where I played the most bigoted and assholeish male dwarf noble. Constantly talked down to the casteless and lower castes, hired assassins on people for insulting my family, any time someone questioned my being a dwarf they got killed.

edit: okay i can get to the sync by using https://dragonagekeep.com/en_US/fuex/ but it still wont let me get any further, all i can do its constantly sync data and choose heroes.

Part of the fun of Bioware games to me is getting your party set-up where you never have to pause at all. Mass Effect was awesome partly because you could bind your teammates skills and easily set up combos.

I thought there were some really great hard set fights in DA:O that were pretty tough on Nightmare where I felt you couldn't just rely on set tactics and had to use the tactical view a bit. One of the things I wish the game had was key-bindings for things on the tactics set-up, ie bind a key to target enemy with frozen status effect. Does anyone know if that is possible?

On DA2 I had a set-up on nightmare where I never had to pause. Partly I think, is that I was playing as a rogue which is very position dependent. Most of the fights, however, weren't as fun because they were just waves and waves of enemies dropping in. The boss fights for the two DLC's were the greatest parts of DA2.

I'm really tempted to get this game, but I don't run windows. Frosbite 3 is all Direct X 11 so running in wine is not an option yet. DA:O and DA2 run great on wine though. I hope EA will support linux, but it's probably never going to happen.

Not in the Keep, you won't, but in the game itself, they have said you can. If they ever bring back your warden, they've said you'll have the same opportunity (they will never bring back the Warden).

I wonder how they're going to segue into it though. I mean we've seen the intro to the game. You pick your race, class and world state, start the game, and then a default Inquisitor stands up and the editing begins. But when will editing Hawke happen? Will you be in the middle of a dramatic scene, turn to a default Hawke stepping into camera, and then suddenly the edit window pops up? We've seen Hawke several times now, so we know it's going to come up, I'm just curious how they plan to handle it.

Only if you harden him and make him king with Anora. It's an option in the Keep (well, Hardening doesn't specifically come up as such, but the same result is available).

I'll go ahead and assume that if Alistair becomes king he's just gonna be hardened by default, as far as the Keep is concerned.
I don't think they're gonna record two personalities for him in Inquisition, if he even shows up. (very likely)

The Keep is pretty neat, only issue I have is when I try and play Varric's narration it stutters like craaazy.

[EDIT]
Oh wait, you can actually choose if you helped him find his sister. That's kinda surprising.
That might have more to do with him being hardened.

Nathaniel's not a bad character, really, but unless you're a human noble his character development is limited to him eventually accepting that yeah, his dad was a major rear end in a top hat and he needs to redeem the family name. He has a bunch more dialogue with human nobles.

I agree. I remember being really confused when DA2 came out and I learned you couldn't finish upgrading Varric's coat if you didn't import a save where Nathaniel lives. I was like, "gently caress's he?"

The Keep gives you at least something to go on.
