I want to see Kim Coates bash Marilyn Manson's face in. So I hope this happens on SOA.

I went to the same high school as Brian Warner, and my uncle was in his graduating class. Cool facts: -my uncle was super into the crowd that loved Kiss and Guns N Roses in the mid/late 80s, and didn't know him at all -every single teacher who had taught him and was still teaching when I was in high school was asked what he was like by at least one teenage goth from the '00s, and the answer was invariably "completely unremarkable" Seeing as how I don't like Kiss or GnR and wasn't particularly remarkable in high school, there's still hope for me to be a pioneering goth artist for late '10s or maybe even early '20s kids edit: oh yeah, in 9th grade art class marilyn manson came on the radio and a kid in the class dug it, was informed it was high school alum brian warner, and immediately began freaking out that everyone in the room was going to hell. a good day in high school walking around fucked around with this message at 11:24 on Oct 10, 2014 |

How much more basic can a song arrangement get? Back when Twiggy rejoined the band I kinda hoped he'd get his mojo back, but this puts me to sleep.

You know, I thought Marilyn Manson had hit rock bottom with his last few albums. And I thought Avril Lavigne had hit rock bottom with that Hello Kitty song. Yet somehow they have come together to prove that I was totally wrong. Also that there is no god, or if there is a god he is a wrathful, evil god who enjoys the suffering of his creations.

5 pages of Marilyn Manson love/hate to catch up with, oh poo poo. I had no idea that Skold was in Shotgun Messiah, that's a great bad album of tail-end, Nirvana has arrived but let's keep trying hair metal anyway. I love that terrible album, remember the day I bought the cassette. I've been a huge fan for some years and a disappointed fan for many more. I also agree that GAOG was a weird shot of decent music after a quick decent into crap. My secret shame is that I kinda really like the first half of EMDM, it came out at a super weird time and I don't think it's good but it really made sense in that state of mind. I saw him live two years ago at a fairly smallish club show. Was super odd seeing that same persona try to squeeze onto such a small stage. Born Villain had recently come out but they maybe only played two songs from it. It was those two songs, 45 minutes of The Hits and then gently caress you good night. Felt like seeing a Manson impersonator at the Ak-Chin Casino with more moshing, was a great slap in the face that I'm old, "paying off this new garage:the tour", other reminder that this poo poo is done was nothing but haggard rock mommas, all the young goths turned emo and hosed off elsewhere, got the same feeling when I saw NIN last year(just the last part, the show was rad). Aside from Manson just getting old literally and running out of steam I don't think his act or any like it work anymore. Guys like him and ICP and Alice Cooper are a dying breed, Slipknot may have a new album but snooore who cares? We live in the stark corporate dystopia scifi warned us about, turns out it's just more mundane than we ever imagined it could be, what the gently caress is shocking anymore? That whole subgenre of music was alive and well for a short period of time, you had your mudvaynes and your mushroomhead. Now we have 24 hours of news coverage and youtube, music has no dark corners left to hide in anymore. What I'm trying to say is although Manson let us down, as a society we also failed Manson, we let poo poo get so bad nothing he did could blip our radar anymore.

Thirty second preview of the song "Deep Six" and here it is performed live. Color me cautiously optimistic for the new material. Nothing has really wowed me the way Mechanical Animals has yet, but I have yet to hear anything bad. Here's to hoping it'll at least be Holy Wood good.

That live clip was surprisingly not-terrible. If they do an actual headlining tour this cycle, as opposed to the overpriced double-bills their last three tours have been, I'll make the effort to see them again. They're not an arena band anymore but I think they can still sell out largish clubs pretty easily.
