I like when guitars try to have as little pickguard as possible, like "gently caress yeah, I don't even need to guard my guitar from these picks, my aim is insane."

I wouldn't argue that if my life depended upon it. Here's a great rundown of his gear room and his rig, and you'll find it's fairly up-to-date. Uncut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raxhgWqS2eU Cut to just my Seafoam Green and FP JEMs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raxhgWqS2eU&t=248s ...and if you want Vai being self-deprecating and a little funny (based on the replies here, you don't, so why bother?) here's where he talks about the electric fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b58Xil8RfRY&t=318s I can understand why some people don't like his style, or the way his guitars look, or even the fan thing (I use a fan at work, but it's not to make me look like a Rock-Guitar God, it's just to keep me cooled-off, go loving figure that out), so there's a lot about this thread I totally understand but there's just as much that will always be hateful and silly when I read it. This is me being all defensive. Everybody clear with that? Reminder: Weird how so many posters in this thread lust after Seafoam Green or Surf Green finishes, isn't it? The finish leaves a bit to be desired though, especially in the output cavity. I bought the guitar and put a Crunch Lab and a push/pull series/parallel switch in it, probably voiding the warranty. Then I let it sit and look pretty for over a year, because I had another new Ibanez to play. I avoided the JEM because I didn't want to scratch it. I realized much later that the instrument had a serious problem where the treble-side of the frets was catching the 1st string, and pretty-much made it unplayable. I contacted HoshinoUSA in Bensalem, PA and they fixed it and turned it around in a week. So I have an Indonesian-Premium JEM with a USA fretjob on it. Since I got it back I can't stop playing it. It's pure joy. All in all it cost me 33 extra bucks. Sleepflower posted:I used the term "Autism Spectrum Disorder" for a reason. Thanks to our keyboard player being a massive pants on head retarded baby who is unable to keep his politics out of a band environment despite being nearly old enough to claim a pension, I will be spending my nights for all the forseeable future scanning and copying out sheet music for a twelve piece band instead of gigging while drunk and disorderly. All so when he has the inevitable meltdown and quits dramatically just before the Christmas season we will still be able to play shows without having to force him to hand over the pads. You fuckers better be entertaining this weekend. In other retarded news, I bought a new piece of gear in the worst colour. I love it! Baritone Jazzmaster tuned B to B.

Couldn't really say much myself about guitar parts and stuff since I'm not too experienced, I've got a Mexican Tele that seems to make sounds when I touch the strings and that seems about right. Might have to try and see about reducing the buzzing noise I get when I turn up the gain.

You can shield the pickup cavity to reduce noise, you're never going to be able to lose it 100%, but shielding helps immensely. It's pretty easy. I found a decent looking guide here. I'd recommend getting some aluminium tape/copper tape from a DIY store instead of using foil and glue though. You could also get away with just soldering a ground wire to the head of a small flat head screw or crimp and screw it through the foil rather than using a bit of copper. I've heard you're not supposed to remove all the strings at once for some reason, which you would obviously need to do when modding a guitar. How much truth is there to that statement? Presumably they must go some time during production without strings.
