cable select worked fine for me since my first Pentium 75. Didn't work for poo poo on the 386

i interned at a company that made specialized embedded pcs and that was where i learned all about IRQs, DMA channels, cable select, etc in 2011 one of the tests for a BIOS release involved playing doom to test a certain sound blaster pnp card

theodop posted:what was the problem with cable select?? it didn't work. you had to put the jumper on Master or Slave specifically for where it was on the cable, CS setting did not work and the drive wouldnt detect at all or both drives entirely wouldn't work, despite if they were both set to CS.

wasn't there an additional pin that was used to identify master vs slave and a bunch of cheap cables didn't have it for some reason

We had a Thunder Board because my dad said it was cheaper and compatible with both Adlib and Soundblaster. came with a full version of lemmings and a demo of some futuristic game show called lexicross or something.

yeah. then i bought a card from fries that literally exploded inside mycomputer. then i bought a turtle beeach santigo?santano?not sure idk. that was my last non-integrated/non-dac sound card. so i'm alwaysa a little surprised to see a turtle beach.

not nearly as elite as ur ppls ancient cards but i had a sound blast live 5.1 and i put it in like 4 gaming 'rigs b4 i gave up on finding drivers and faced to realtek
