NANI?

Sakai's problem is that it seems they worked out his personality by running a 'generic rival generator' program.

Sakai's problem is that he is just so unfocused. He's Yuuma's rival but he's also Sekei's rival and otherwise he's just basically Mao. He's kind of all over the place so far. Mao, in comparison, was really clear and concise. (Great builder to be the rival to Sei's build skills.)

BF did a lot better job of setting up some core rivalries by this point. We knew what Yuuki's deal was, we knew what Mao's deal was, Felini had already been showing up, and the core cast was already pretty defined.

And yeah, everyone is more serious. It isn't a serious show but it feels like it compared to the first season which went out of its way to undercut drama wherever possible.

I think Sakai is intended to be less a Mao-style rival than just a kind of Mao-style comic relief character. Only instead of being a generally good-natured weird guy from the sticks, he's just a huge, petty dick who probably deserves everything that happens to him. And frankly I'm really enjoying that about him.

Can we get an amen for the fact that there is so very little :anime: between Fumina and Sekai, and the fact that nobody really cared that she gave them a freaking giant hug at the end of the episode? As in there's no big deal, victory hug time, no "S-such a thing!" or other stuff?

Maybe I've watched too much moeblobbery (thanks Trinity Seven) but it's refreshing as hell to see a hug that didn't turn into waifu fodder.

Too bad the people behind the upcoming Fumina figure didn't get that particular memo

I hope Lady ends up being a big goon like Fellini, because that would be absolutely hilarious and this show needs its own Fellini and nobody else really fits the bill yet.

Maybe it's just me, but given how fond this show has been of its pairings, I'm wondering if she's a last, desperate attempt to make Tatsuya look vaguely heterosexual.

Do not disparage the perfectly fine and acceptable relationship between Yuuki and his partner Alan.

If anyone, Fumina's looking a tad gay for the Lady. And even if that is the case, I doubt they'll get weird about it.

I liked Katsuhisa Houki as Ral. Yeah, he's got an issue with sounding like he smoked a gorillion cigarettes, but it works for the character. Hopefully, he'll slide into the role and not be too jarring down the line.

That said, I am looking forward to Team Totally Not Dragonar next week and how they perform.

Oh, I ain't, it's just that 'holy poo poo we introduced too much gay subtext better fix that right now' is pretty common in TV shows, especially shonen anime, so it wouldn't be a surprising development.

The music that plays for Lightning Gundam in eps 01 is cool. Was it used in season 1 like a lot of the music or is it new?

Part of the assumption is due to the staff saying that season 1 characters will not be involved in the plot for Try, meaning they'd be on-screen cameos with lines (like with China in episode 2 or Yuuki in this week's episode) at best, and passing mentions at the worst. Yuuki still being the Meijin in Try would kind of conflict with that statement.

Fair enough, I suppose. It seems sort of at odds with how big a deal a person becoming the Meijin was in Season 1, though.

I'd kinda figure he'd still be the Meijin, but just be busy internationally, whilst Lady holds things down for PPSE Yajima in Japan.

Well If they stick to the plan of not actually having worlds in this season then they can be potentially be brought up as the big team for the other season.

It seems weird that these regionals are for school age kids though, will this be for a chance to go to the main regionals? Will they jump straight to the nationals?

Also next fight is going to own bones. Apparently the team is made up science department members all with a particular focus. The leader is versed in maritime training, the builder knows electrical engineering and outfitted the other suits with things like electromagnetic claws and active camouflages and the other guy is an expert in information tech and his robot is all about gathering info with sensors and radars and poo poo. Apparently their motto is to dispose of the enemy as efficiently as possible with flawless teamwork.

It's only a conflict if you assume that the Meijin is going to be a major factor in the overall plot of Try, though. If he's not going to be a major factor in the season's plot (and why would he be, given that it's focusing on team battles when the title of Meijin is awarded to only a single person?), then it's entirely possible for Tatsuya to still be the Meijin during Try.

It's pretty obviously a bracket. Somewhere else there's an Over-19 competition going on and they'll probably bring them all together for a push at the champions. No-one likes the 30-year-old manchild shut-in stomping all over Little Timmy's carefully-made kit because he doesn't know how to game the particles properly. Plus it means there's no teams of My Dad and Me kicking kid's asses because he bought a Neo Zeong.
