Who needs all of these new movie podcasts? We have the best movie podcast on Earwolf/pop already with I Love Films.

But Maltin on Movies and I Was There Too were great! The Canon was terrible. It has an unintelligible title and the absolute worst premise. I thought it would be like an academic look at critically acclaimed movies and there would be historical justifications for the movie's success and ultimately a debate over whether or not the movie was overrated. Instead it's one person doing the "Maybe it's me, but for me..." bit seriously and another person just vehemently making GBS threads on a movie the majority of people love.

Maltin and I Was There Too are the two I've listened to and I'm all in on them both.

The Canon was one I immediately decided I wasn't interested in, particularly based on the subject of the first episode. No way I could get any joy from listening to someone try to tell me Goodfellas is a bad movie.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

I really liked episode one of Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor Ever, I'm just not sure about the idea of them going through alphabetically after The Equalizer - I feel like pre-planning stuff even if it wasn't in a set order might work better, since like Training Day could be a big finale (of Denzel films at least) but they're going to like have the huge Training Day episode and then do Unstoppable and then something called Virtuosity on the wind down.

That, I Was There Too, and Maltin on Movies (listening to it now and really liking it) are going to be something I listen to every week, Happy Sad Confused seems pretty good (although I listened to the Woody Allen back episode to judge, not the new one), and Get Up On This is pretty fun and I'm glad it's escaped Kevin Smith's network. Crybabies is the only other new one that really piques my interest, but this is a pretty awesome launch.

I feel like The Canon, Rotten Tomatoes, and OMFG! are going to be the only ones I won't have any interest in whatsoever. Their descriptions are all basically "listen to how much we know" without much flavor beyond that.

I liked The Canon quite a bit. Things get heated but I can sort of see the case against Goodfellas. That's not to say I agree with it, but I can see how those points would turn someone away from the movie. Though I think a better discussion might've been on Goodfellas Vs Casino.

I'm glad they're shunting them to the end of the show now. It basically boiled down to Matt wanting to establish that having an affair with a married man is morally wrong and that he's right to be annoyed by Monica Lewinsky.

Ya, Matt seems to love treating these kinda like debate club and he's mostly about proving the other guy wrong than making a point himself. But the dude on the phone just sucked, even if I empathize with the POV that Lewinsky got unfairly treated.

It's a really bad segment b/c M.B. is a high strung weirdo who thinks he's actually having a debate with someone over skype or whatever, the end result being him stepping all over whoever it is for ten minutes leading to nothing of note. Furthermore, they're always weirdo pet issues of his. Sure Matt, Arkansas is actually good and so is bill clinton and funerals are bad, great improv.

Dredging up ol Lewsinky last week was pretty lame, and the criticism directed at her has always seemed pretty shallow and vicious, to me, since her whole thing started. I am not eager to listen to Matt rationalize this behavior; I'd much rather hear him debate someone on a topic related to comedy, but I think they may have already done one on that on another episode. Most of the rest have been some moral or semantic issue that he is either not right about or not thinking enough about, and isn't funny.

I rarely agree with him but I think Besser getting into these arguments is super hilarious. "Hey guys, wanna come on my improv podcast? Oh btw, I'm going to stop it midway for 30 minutes while I argue with a stranger on Skype."

Anyone go to the Asssscat that Besser mentioned? I think it was at the old location since I doubt they'd have some cop procedural actress open up the innagural show at UCB Sunset. Really wanna know who she is.

Besser also had some great poo poo-talking on the latest Never Not Funny. Besser had a nice part in the Freak Book episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm but it was totally changed to a glorified extra at the last minute by the director. Then he later worked with the director on those awful Apple commercials from a couple years back.

Yea pretty much, I love I4H, Besser is a saint of comedy, but when he gets into these arguments I almost always wind up mumbling 'are you loving kidding' or something as I listen. Like I keep waiting for this to reveal itself as a bit but nope.

Still I agree there is this weird almost evil humor factor in the fact that he brings these loving comics on and sometimes makes them just wait a half hour while he and some twitter shitbag have a fight about literally nothing. Like, just the concept of that will always make me laugh.
