IIRC the only way to get the Unicorn and Cerebus cards are from the Coliseum. Or at least I think that's the cards, but there's two special types of armors that only spawn there and drop cards.

You're right, they're more powerful versions of the Dark Armor/Light Armor enemies you see in the last areas of the game proper.

More music :3: I feel like the franchise's unique sound compared to other games owes more to 70s/80s Italian horror flicks and music by Goblin and such than people give it credit for, especially in Super Castlevania IV, Dracula X and the GBA/DS games. Behold:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVHtTs6oG4Y (Michiru Yamane TOTALLY was inspired by this when she composed Rainbow Cemetary I mean come on)

I feel like this was the direction they were set with for the console games pretty much forever.

Yet, with the much weaker original Game Boy hardware that they decided to go totally metal, the results are glorious just because someone looked at the GB's sound capabilities and was like "yes, I'm going to make a Dio concept album on this, this will be awesome." They ended up being completely right:

Like if I ever had all the dollars and was producing a Castlevania game I'd only have music from the old games and licensed Goblin/Tangerine Dream tracks no hesitation.

The GB games had amazing music, too bad they were absolutely terrible games.

I hadn't actually noticed the similarities between Goblin / Fulci films and Castlevania, and have to say you're spot on.

I'm liking Ecclesia more and more the deeper I get into it. Dual-wielding Nitesco into a coruscating bean of death is pretty great, and combining it with Dominus Agony is just lovely.

It's really drat great. I hope people that haven't gotten the chance to play it previously picked it up during PSN's Halloween sale. You can tell they put in tons of effort to make it the best remake they possibly could. It also has that great classic Castlevania feel where if you're doing really well, you feel like a loving god for being so in-sync with the game. :allears:

People enjoy the new Dracula fight, but I seriously remember having issues with it. I'm only up to Shaft on my new playthrough and still have to rescue most of the maidens, so it will be a little ways before I can see if it's as difficult as I remember it being several years ago. "Really small hitboxes" and "loving blood rain" come to mind when I try to channel my thoughts back to when I was fighting him.

Ecclesia's Dracula is loving hard. I'm impressed at how large the castle is, though, particularly given how much of the game is outside of it.

Dracula in OoE is my favorite boss in the series, especially on hard mode. It's such an intense fight in the second phase and the music is perfect. It's too bad that you can straight up skip the fight with the tools the game gives you, because it seems like almost everyone that I talk to about the game did just that. Please fight Dracula normally, he is amazing.

The castle actually seems relatively small to me once you get rapidus fio, but as you said it isn't the entire game.

Albus mode in general is kind of lackluster, but I think the most fun I had in OoE was his Dracula fight. It was really intense and required you to be on your toes from start to finish.

I'm going to be a bit unique here, and say that I LOVED Lament of Innocence, despite it's many flaws, because of the atmosphere the game gave off. The castle FELT unique, and the 'repetitious' corridors and such that would go on to drag down Curse of Darkness actually FIT, given the fact that, save for the introduction area, the entire game takes place in a nobleman's castle. The music is perfect for each area, and, as hammy as it gets, the voice acting actually isn't that bad.

Plus, it's the only Castlevania to have a bonus mode where you play as a boss that isn't a Belmont, so hats off there.

It has an amazing atmosphere and music but it's kind of eh to play, I still enjoy it though. I love stuff like the path to the optional super boss being open right at the start and you can go down and feel the ominous atmosphere ages before you actually get to fight him.
I hated how low-key everything was originally, since it was supposed to be the origins of both the Vampire Killer, Belmonts and Dracula, but after Lord of Shadow's bombast I'm kind of enjoying low-key.

I like Lament of Innocence because you can start in whatever area you want, the music owns, the areas aren't as bloated as in Curse of Darkness, the bosses are really fun (especially the secret one), the hallways aren't terribly interesting but all the unique rooms are cool, etc. Definitely something I didn't appreciate when it came out.

Yeah, my memories of Lament of Innocence are that it was a difficult game and not exceptional, but it was fun to play and offered a fairly "Castlevania" experience. It offers great art by Ayame Kojima and great music by Michiru Yamane again too, so that makes it worthy in my book.

Amazon sellers aren't really any less likely to send out bootlegs than eBay I don't think. It being 'new' actually makes it even more suspicious.

It's been years since I bought a DS/GBA cart off internet resellers so maybe it's improved since then but it used to be like 5:1 ratio of bootlegs to actual carts. Got some Nintondo classics around here somewhere still.

This does not make sense when, again, aggregate indicia also indicate improvements. The belief that things are worse is false. It remains false.
LoI is probably my favorite 3D Castlevania, and CotM is probably my favorite 2D Castlevania(in the more modern era). My favorite fangame is the Lecarde Chronicles, which I can't recommend enough. Come at me, goons, I have defenses and apologia for all of these games, and reasons why your own preferred games suck.

There's a lot of good that could have been done with a sustained development for the plotline that went into LoI, and plenty of good that could have come of the earlier version of the Castlevania plotline origins, too. It's a shame Konami never tried to develop the entire franchise as a program the way some other studios (particularly Western ones) might have.

Yeah, Amazon sellers are even worse than eBay because you don't get to preview the item.

What you could do is message an eBay seller and ask them to verify the product. Also if you ever end up with a bootleg, eBay will refund your entire purchase no questions asked. One time I got my money back literally within 20 minutes, and they don't even request that you return the item.
