Need some boot advice. Playing on my work team but haven't had shoes for a long time. Looking for something cheap, but happy to dish out if there's something worth it. I have wide feet, so any advice is appreciated.

The Mercurial series felt like a glove the first time I wore it. Just get the lowest version and it'll be fine. Tiempo are pretty good too. The thing with boots is really you have to try out a bunch of pairs to find something you like. Don't get caught up in the bullshit where "this boot is for defenders/attackers" crap because it's all marketing. Granted, dependent on the position you might want something lighter or more padded, but don't let that be the make or break from you.

Pumas in my experience run really narrow (as in "go a half or even full size up" narrow) and Nikes seem to run wide, so try that out.

My feet are also pretty friggin wide For indoor, I wear LunarGato II and they fit perfectly. Wide enough at the top and pretty light. For outdoor, I tried the Mercurials and they were waaaay too tight. I went with the Hypervenoms which seems to be more stretchy than the Mercurials.

Anyway, Adidas and Nike have stamped out a lot of the fringe brands so now it's sort of like having a quaalude addiction in that nobody has what I'm looking for anymore. Luckily the Japanese tend to have wide feet and so I bought a pair of Mizuno Supersonic Wave 3 and a pair of Asics DS Light 6 Wide through some intermediary on ebay. They're both fine, if I had to recommend one it would be the Mizuno, but unless you're in Japan you're going to have to overpay like I did. I still have a couple indoor Kelme wide shoes that they don't make anymore that will probably take me to the end of my playing days, so I don't have any advice there. My general advice would be 1) don't count on stretching... all else being equal yeah get the stretchy kangaroo leather or thin synthetic or whatever but it doesn't actually take you that far and it takes a while and a lot of wear to get even there. 2) after fit it really doesn't matter much. Unless you're verging on going pro don't worry about an ounce here or there or the gripping material for free kicks etc. It's sort of like cars -- you have to really try to get a shoddy pair of shoes nowadays. pangstrom fucked around with this message at 17:14 on Nov 6, 2014 |

I had one of my best saves in years tonight. A driven corner came in and one of their defenders sent a nice header to the far post. I managed to get my fingertips to it and put it over the crossbar. The best part is that he had already turned to celebrate

So I played with a 14 year old kid from Atletico de Madrid's youth team. He was pretty good considering he was playing with 20 something year olds. Needs to learn how to make a loving through ball though.

I wear Nike Elastic Pro II's, I play two/three games a week in them and they've lasted pretty well so far. Bit of wear on my kicking insteps but that's to be expected. I've found Nikes sizing runs about .5 of a size large; I usually wear size 11 but need 11.5 for my indoor shoes.

I've scored two free kicks in my last two games  That's three goals in three games this season so far. If I manage to make it four from four I'm rewarding myself with these bad boys A hundred and sixty pound is pretty steep tbh but I don't think they'll come down in price and they're pretty hard to get hold of. Also just bought these for indoor. Hopefully they arrive before our next game on Monday!

There's no way I'd get all white boots. Them fuckers would be stained so fast. Haven't been able to play in two weeks due to work. Hoping to get back into it this weekend. I made a huge mistake last time and mistook a back pass (as in completely missed it) and the striker got a break and scored. Eventually made up for it but it sticks in the back of my mind like an annoying song.

ahah the other team was short two at the start so they pulled in a bunch of the immigrants playing pickup near the field 24/7, who then proceeded to play loving joga bonito all over the place and merk our squad. I had to move from striker to center dm because I was the only fucker who could keep up with them on their runs, and my lungs are sore from running and yelling "I have ball," "don't dive in" and "push to the outside" for 75 minutes. Of course the normal players showed up 15 minutes in but they just let the fake subs keep playing lmao

Hoping I get to play today. All depends on the weather and how my legs are. Don't know if I said this yet, but the doctor thinks I'm relapsing because my legs are starting to hurt and ache again. The muscles I had surgery on hurt when I point my toes and now my calves are starting into it as well. Won't stop me from playing though, can't do it. I refuse to be inactive again. It killed me to not be able to play or anything for more than a year. And I have Vicodin to help me on my way until I can get checked by a specialist.
