Chamale posted:I remember an old article talking about how Magic cards used to be like illustrations in a wizard's encyclopedia, and now they're clearly intended to be more like photographs of the subject. This is a very helpful description that I'd never heard before. It's exactly why the new art is subjectively worse.

Granted, sometimes those wizards couldn't draw for poo poo, but at least we got some variety.

We have variety now. Noah Bradley is wholly distinct from Swanland, who is distinct from Nielsen, who is distinct from Aaron Miller, who is distinct from Mohrbacher, who is distinct from Min Yum, who is distinct from Adam Paquette, who is distinct from Kieryluk, who is distinct from Clint Cearley, etc. Literally pulled off the top of my head from artists in the last two blocks that I could easily name stylistic features of and would bet money on being able to tell apart. Actually, they might even all have been in Theros block, now I look back over it.

My favorite two Magic artists are my favorite because I like them as people. I met Mark Poole at a convention, somehow ended up interviewing him for the convention, then she showed up at a room party I was throwing and signed a Counterspell for me. Goran Josic is a buddy of mine who just materialized at my 30th birthday party (due to a mutual friend), and since then he always comes to my band's shows and we drink at the same bars and we get wasted and he teaches me filthy words in his native language.

The Foglio fan is criticizing the technical capability of Stasis' artist (Fay Jones)?

A reminder that some people are unwitting Harold Mcneil fans. It's a shame the guy is batshit insane because knight of the mists looks cool as hell.

Initial observations at GP NJ: - Organization is fantastic, announcements are audible. - John Avon has an entire room for signing. There are about 70 people in line. - The top tables have the bad chairs. The higher tables have these nice padded chairs I didn't know this convention center had. - The parking lot is super full. People are probably going to have to park down the street at those empty lots on Saturday.

I would absolutely love to describe him, to his face, as "a guy that's been drawing lumpy stuff on magic cards longer than anybody." Of course, I actually like the lumps in a lot of cases - they add texture and character to stuff like Urza's Power Plant or Primal Beyond. I wonder if he knows how to draw Lumpy Space Princess...

Dunno if anyone else got an invite to a survey today, but I did. Last question.... "If there was ONE thing you could change about Magic: The Gathering, what would that be?" Aside from that one, the rest of it seemed structured just to figure out if they're getting penetration into different demographics between their three "realms" (paper magic, mtgo, duels). They don't seem to have any actual interest in finding out what's broken.

Fucken Cursed Scrolls how do they work: http://www.twitch.tv/haumph/b/588547392?t=2h1m20s Cheon tries to use Cursed Scroll while he has one card in his hand, City of Brass.
