It's the same thing that gets you down, once you're up. That's not what I mean though. I do not want to go over everything I run up against at all times. For example indoors I don't want to go over railings and then hang there like a dumbass when I just wanted to run away. It's loving stupid to have a free-run button but then also have your character free-run in some circumstances anyway even if you don't hold that button. It makes the controls ambiguous and poo poo.

Shits janky and has always been!

Especially with the new cover key which also doubles as the "low profile" key so I keep getting stuck to walls and counters and poo poo. I've been killed more than once because Arno won't get the gently caress off whatever thing he's jumped on while people are stabbing him.

Yeah it's by no means the biggest thing wrong with unity but it's one of several things that should have been picked up on and fixed during testing. I'm just about up to sequence 9, and I'm really only playing it for the historical tourism. I've never really gotten into rear end cred before (except for black flag, cos pirates) but I always thought that the French Revolution would be an amazing setting for it. It's so frustrating to see that setting squandered, they wouldn't need to insert Arno into every event but the great thing about the revolution is it was so centralised in Paris over that time. Also, the movement was already kinda janky in black flag, I didn't think they could make it worse. But they did. When this game manages to run though it looks stellar, I don't think we'll ever see this time period realised so well. I feel bad for the artists who slaved over this game only to see it shat on because of lovely design, bugs and a mediocre story.

How is the french voicework? Please tell me that its at least passable. The british voice acting is so, so, jarring. I don't care about the reasons why - for me it automatically takes me completely out of any story they are trying to tell.

I'm curious. Does this game have the usual "HEY WE HAD LOTS OF MINORITIES WORK ON THIS SO WE'RE TOTALLY NOT RACIST AT ALL ABOUT ANYTHING EVER" like all the previous AC games have done? I don't know why but I've always found that hilarious.

It's stupid as hell but if you futz around in the UI options there's a toggle to turn "SPEND YOUR 1 UNITY POINT" off. I think it's either the "friend hint" or "progression hint" or something like that, I turned two off and those pop-ups went away while I haven't seemed to have any issue with missing other indicators.

Speaking of voicework, I see Ubisoft didn't even attempt to find a Finnish speaker to voice their big Templar boss from Finland, Otso Berg. The Canadian VA they got to do his voice in Rogue is just speaking in this sort of vague European accent, and I can tell you right now that a Finnish accent doesn't sound remotely like that. The French voicework is probably terrible but if you're not familiar with the language you don't notice it. Kind of like how people will insist the Japanese VO is better in everything.

I mean not really. Even if you don't understand the language, it's pretty easy to tell by inflection and timing whether the actor gives a poo poo or not.

The animus giving everyone italian accents was fine, because they'd throw in Italian words that are similar in english (ex: "what is this dance del diavolo?) and why they couldn't do it again in french is a mystery. Also french De Sade is great.

Aphrodite posted:The French voicework is probably terrible but if you're not familiar with the language you don't notice it. This being a thing for anime is more because the voice actors who do the voices for anime are professionals who usually do nothing but voice work. Their career is based on their ability to emoting entirely through their voice, and some of them are truly phenomenal. When a lot of anime gets dubbed into English, they often get live-action actors who are accustomed to emoting through being seen, and fail miserably when handicapped to just their voice.

I occasionally feel a little guilty playing Rogue. There's a hell of a lot of collectibles, and most of them just unlock cosmetic outfits or weapons. And yet I keep hoovering up the items (with the exceptions of chests and fragments), my gaming OCD kicking in something fierce. Also, I really hope future AC games borrow or refine the stalker enemies in Rogue. They're basically the older games' multiplayer feature done in the single player, and it works really well. My favorite was when a stalker popped up to get me while on a rooftop, but instead fell off and died. Not to mention how sometimes you'll land right next to them and then they'll run off Scooby Doo cartoon style.

I know it's only been a week or so, but are there any giant spoiler posts about the story of Unity? After hearing all the bad reports of the game, I'm thinking about skipping this one but I want to know about the story. I checked the Asscreed wikia but they don't seem to have one post on the story that I could find. Edit: Or someone want to give me a couple lines of spoilered text right here? I played The Witcher in Polish and I was like "yeah this is fine!" but I'm sure a native speaker would think I'm a dumbass for saying so. I got a pretty good Japanese language education in my weeb days, though, so I can compare the small poo poo they do in the Japanese language tracks to the stuff they skip entirely in English and say yeah, the English localizations tend to suck a lot of flavor out in favor of (thanks to the aforementioned poor directing) weird, emotionless grunts and poo poo.
