Camrath posted:Picked this up digitally on the ps4 and while I'm really enjoying the gameplay there seem to be some really glaring technical problems. I've repeatedly been getting very slow control responses- the game runs smoothly, but it feels sometimes like there's a full half-second of lag before inputs register, which makes managing the inventory or the codex in particular a loving chore. Also there's some sort of game-breaking bug in the conversations- every time I try and talk to Cassandra outside the haven (still haven't been on the first war-room mission) it gets to a point where no matter what I select in the conversation my character just stands there in silence without being able to either skip ahead or make him say anything. Restarting the system/game doesn't fix this.

Somehow the framerate is better, the pop-in is nonexistent, and everything just looks better on the Sword Coast than in the Hinterlands on PS3. I... have no idea how that works. Those water effects. Also, I actually feel a bit sorry for that one goon who was going to quit playing because of spiders now, because hahaha oh man. Spiders. Multiplayer is actually starting to be really fun to me now that I've got a handle on it. It's not as polished as ME3's for sure, but it does feel more dynamic and if they keep updating it with new maps and stuff I can see it really being good.

Schlesische posted:I've decided to give a Mage a whirl, and boy wow you guys weren't kidding. Mages are pretty poo poo without the specialization to end all specializations. Get the dash in the Winter tree. You can wait on upgrading it to do damage- the mobility is what's important. You can turn while dashing, so with some practice you can pass an enemy, loop around, and end your dash right next to them. Also get the passive that makes you freeze all the enemies around you whenever your barrier is brought down. With these two, you're basically Mass Effect's Vanguard and Sentinel combined. Spirit has Mind Blast, which is useful and inexpensive. There's also a passive that makes your barrier 50% stronger, but I'd avoid it, since you probably won't have any health issues and it's useful to have your barrier going down semi-often due to the above passive. There's also a passive to increase your mana regen by 35% when you have a barrier up, but that requires you to take another passive that lowers your threat, which is bad, so I'd avoid it. The regen buff is party-wide, so just have another Mage in your party take it. Other stuff: There's a passive in Fire (Clean Burn) that lowers your spell cooldowns by one second every time you cast a spell (I.E. use your spirit blade). Mana is usually what stops you from casting expensive spells, but the passive's worth it to let you dash often. In Storm, pick up the passive that increases your damage at low mana. You'll usually be at 50%~ mana or less, so that's a 25+% damage increase. And immediately after you've gotten that, get the one that shocks and paralyzes enemies who attack you while you're casting. Because with Spirit Blade, you're constantly casting.

Every single step of the story, everyone tells me how I awesome I am and how much I rock, even when I don't accomplish anything. Immediately after, there is either a break away for a heart warming moment where people who are fighting stop because I am such an awesome leader, or people cheer. For fucks sake. And the heck of it, another very early game spoiler. For fucks sake! Everyone talks about the nobility and greatness of the inquisition and restoring order but they literally do not give a single detail about the the hell they plan to do. Not even once. Good thing a convenient plot enemy shows up! Because absent that, by the time I got out of Haven, I honestly had no idea what the hell the Inquisition was planning to do. Basically, the main story has the depth and substance of a mushy, cold pancake.

Cythereal posted:It varies wildly depending on your computer. I'm encountering the framerate issue in cutscenes and conversations, and have had a few CTDs and moments where everyone was stuck in the T-pose that reloading fixed, but nothing too severe. Will probably look up the framerate fix when I get home. Just to weigh in I'm playing on a laptop with a video card just a tick above min specs (Nvidia GT 555M) with most stuff on Low and Medium and a few things on High (textures and meshes, I think?) and while I get a framerate that I consider reasonably playable--like mid-20s, sometimes higher, sometimes lower (Redcliffe!!!!)--I haven't had any bugs worth noting. Occasionally people at Haven weren't in their spot but appear if you walk away and walk back, and (end of Act 1 spoiler) when the dragon attacks Haven the cutscene loaded both me and the dragon in T-pose and I saved and reloaded from the T-pose save to fix it. I'm actually impressed with how well it runs; it's about how well the shittily-optimized Assassin's Creed IV ran, but obviously I wouldn't expect most people to be as okay with the framerate as I am and I could easily get it smoother by turning more things to Low and turning off ambient occlusion, etc., if I wanted to. edit: Also my voice changed but there's gotta be a console command or something to fix that and anyway they've noted it and are gonna address it in a patch Pretzel Rod Serling fucked around with this message at 19:38 on Nov 22, 2014 |

They're both long games and worth playing, but if you're pressed for time and just looking at them to get out of the way before Inquisition, I'd say skip them. I guess it depends on your play habits. Dragon Age is great except for the Fade, and DAII has some repetitiveness issues going on. If your snowed in for the next month then it'd be worth it for the story.

After the end of Act 1, Solas pulled my elf Inquisitor aside to warn her that there are really only two possible results: either people forget that she's an elf and whitewash history to say that she is and always had been human, or they remember and their devotion turns on her if she stands for elves rather than what people believe the Herald of Andraste should be. Also, I've seen a couple screenshots now of NPCs sending the PC letters. Where do you find/get these? As for previous games, I recommend DAO on the basis that it's a good game and a very good introduction to the setting. DAI assumes you're already familiar with things.

Yeah, he pretty much said the same thing to my dwarf. A shame you can't curb all that nonsense in the bud but it seems like the game is actively dissuading you from doing so. If I thought Bioware more clever I'd say it's a meta-commentary on the chosen one plot thread of RPGs in general and how little say the hero actually has in being the chosen one. We'll see but they're laying on the fanaticism pretty thick so I doubt you'd be able to make a lasting choice to tell people to pull their head out of the clouds. Edit: Has anyone unlocked any of the multiplayer classes? If so, how are they? I played a game with someone who unlocked that Qunari guy and had like a giant flaming scimitar and he pretty much won us the game. He was a beast but he was near level 20 and it was on the lowest difficulty. I was looking at Alchemist because the Tempest class looks like fun and the idea of a dwarf dousing herself in volatile liquid before going into battle just makes me laugh. There is so much about this game that is lazy and half-assed. Latest example: your codex is actually entirely useless at being a codex or encyclopedia of game lore. It's neither searchable nor organized alphabetically, so if you find yourself scratching your head about some group or location you can't quite remember, just alt-tab and google them. It's only your discovered codex entries organized as "cards" in collections so if you want to go back and read any of the text you'll need to click manually through journal and codex entries one-by-one to find the relevant stuff.
