of much greater importance than boullier or michael individually is the fact that mclaren now have three people doing what was previously whitmarsh's job. whitmarsh might have actually been competent, who knows, but he was saddled with far too much responsibility.

The V8 noise was not what people watched F1 for. There was just as much whinging when they got rid of the v10's but everyone forgot about that too. THe v8 was just noise. The v10 was glorious.

I'm sure the teams are going to love the fact that they spunked millions on developing new engines and then Bernie says. Dont worry lads, you can use the old v8s again. There are plenty of other motorsports that have loud naturaly aspirated engines still, F1 isnt one of them anymore. So I guess maybe if you bitch hard enough about it in the F1 thread on the comedy website forums you might get the old engines back.

also, all you need to do to make the v6s sound like the v8s is lift the fuel flow restrictions so they can rev higher

track day bro! posted:I thought they dont realy make power over the 10k rev limit anyway in current guise? Or is it purely just the fuel restrictions doing that? They're allowed to rev up to 15k but the instantaneous fuel flow rate restrictions are such that there's no point going over 10k (you can't deliver additional fuel over 10k rpm but the internal friction goes up so power output goes down). The benefit of that is that the hard rev limit no longer kills the benefit of an aerodynamic tow as was the endemic problem under the previous engine regulations. The reason for having a fuel flow rate restriction (rather than just the overall kg per race allowance) is they discovered in endurance racing that the best way to save fuel while keeping a decent lap time is to floor it at the start of a straight then coast the second half; this can cause dangerous closing speeds between drivers in different fuel saving strategies (think Webber driving in to the rear of the backmarker in Valencia).

Lotus seems like kind of a miserable place to work not to mention when all your effort goes towards a car driven by Pastor loving Maldonado. I'd say quite easily the best place to work at in F1 is Williams.
