Otacon posted:Just so you're all aware, TF2 keys have officially hit 11 refined each. Funny thing is, 11 ref doesn't feel as hard to get for me now as 2.33 did a couple years ago. Probably because I have every weapon so every drop is +metal. But yeah, keys' price-in-refined will keep going up until refined stops plummeting in value. Metal needs some sort of use, something that removes it from the system at least as fast as it's created. People don't craft 3 refined together to make hats as much as they used to, since the chances of getting one you particularly want are worse and worse. (Really, Valve needs to overhaul the entire crafting system one of these days. There's a ton of obsolete junk in there, like tokens.) My favorite ideas for Metal uses: (1) Better crafting recipes that are relevant to the huge variety of hats that exist now. (2) Silly economy toys, like a reusable giftapult that costs metal per-use. I'd use it to get rid of junk I don't want but isn't worth trading (except for pure deletion-fodder like crates). Ditocoaf fucked around with this message at 07:26 on Nov 22, 2014 |

Just spent a fair part of a round constantly harrassing a trio of engineers all building in the same place. Run up, sap some things with the red-tape recorder, pop my DR and sit by their dispensers. Did you know that dropping DR next to a dispenser that's filled your cloak meter while you're cloaked let's you immediately pop DR when you uncloak? They didn't. I just kept sapping their things forever. I should have led them into a false sense of security by using the red-tape then later switching to stock, but then they had pyros hanging around to cover their ineptitude.

So, I don't know if this is a widely spread problem but I've been having problems with my mouse double clicking or just not registering properly. So things like the Soldier's backpacks [since I like to hold onto the buffs and then just take my finger off the button to activate], the flamethrowers and SMG aren't as useful now because I can't rely on them working well when I need them. I'm using a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse for my laptop.

It is shocking, shocking how easy it is to get away with hacking on a Valve server. There was a spy recently who was getting Ambassador headshots on cloaked spies from across the map and twice I tried to votekick him, both of which failed because people didn't just not vote, they outright voted no. Then he votes to kick me and it passes. So I don't know if he had just brought a bunch of buddies with him or if people are just that stupid but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Well 90% of the time when they try to kick the hacker they kick someone else by accident. I've even seen a new thing where they leave the server right as it passes then instantly rejoin after to dodge it.

You have to engineer pubbies a bit, sometimes "I'm pretty sure that guy is hacking, anyone else getting headshot from really far away" will be enough to single the hacker out so people will vote to kick them out. It's dumb but it works.

I start by solidifying my base, create controversy by Just Asking Questions™ and when the time is right use the elite hack known as "ESC, click vote menu."

I've even seen a new thing where they leave the server right as it passes then instantly rejoin after to dodge it. I believe that was patched out last month. My anti-hacker methodology is to call the vote, then immediately say in server-wide chat that the person is hacking. "he is hacking vote yes hit f1" usually does the trick. When the hacker calls a vote on you and it instantly passes, I usually figure they've got a couple buddies with them, it isn't unknown.

The trouble is that the people who notice that he's hacking (barring a really obvious LMAOBOX Heavy micpamming while spinning across the map at mach 8 mowing entire teams with a stream of permacrit nospread minigun fire) tend to be people on the opposite team, and you can't call votekicks on people who aren't on your team. So you have two options: either switch to their team to initiate the vote (which is hard because you can't even spectate very easily on valve servers anymore) or beg them to kick the hacker, and if the hacker is being subtle just enough pubbies might think that he's just good and not hacking. And bear in mind that any vote on a Valve server is already handicapped by the fact that usually at least half the server is so clueless they don't know how to vote, let alone determine something so complex as "Is that spy on the 43 killstreak with an Ambassador while standing uncloacked and undisguised out in the open maybe hacking?" Also, this guy wasn't being passive. My votekicks while saying "Douchebag is hacking, f1" fell on deaf ears while his calls of "Fojar is idle, f1" apparently worked. Maybe he had buddies, I dunno.

Part of the problem is every other server has someone bitching that x is "OBVIOUSLY HACKING OH MY GAAAWD" so people just ignore it as being salty.

Yeah, if I see someone in chat complaining of a hacker, I go Scout and try to find them and kill them. Usually, I succeed (even if it's a life or two later), and conclude they aren't hacking.

I just ask them "how do you know they're hacking" and the truth pretty quickly reveals itself

I usually spectate them. Either they're revealed really quickly or they suddenly start to suck whenever I'm spectating them, in which case I don't stop spectating them.

I never go to STAR_'s server anymore cause it's plagued with hackers. Incredibly obvious "heavy kills you from across the map without looking at you" hackers, yet they never get banned. It's a shame because I get fantastic ping on that server, not a lot of east coast ones these days.

A decent demoman with wallhacks is really powerful since they do damage around corners and can very easily set off sticky traps from safety. Most projectile aimbotters I've run into used the direct hit for obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure there is an automatic reflect hack for pyro as well, as I've run into a couple pyros that reflect every rocket shot at them, including ones from the back. You can spectate people to see if they are using aimbots pretty easily, or look for the player who has perfect aim but moves and plays like a retard. A soldier who lands every direct hit rocket but can't rocket jump to save his life, or a pyro who reflects rockets from behind but doesn't turn around to deal with you are both pretty obvious after a short period of time.

Simple solution, make crit-a-cola give you bigger/more jumps instead of minicrits. Of course, it's still called crit-a-cola. I guess because it could have you take minicrits in exchange?
