Manga 53.5 - Gatdamn, even when when nothing bad happens it's still tragic. Kinda nice to see Sheele again, but eff. Also, holy poo poo, Akame has the same VA as Fujimiya from One Week Friends.

Spoilers ahead, sorry: Seryuu is actually a good example of why I think most people actually like this series (either anime or manga). I've been a big fan from the beginning and I admit the serries has a lot of flaws. The setting is a cliche euro-oriental mashup that's been done too often; the whole "rich people will rape you with their dog and kill you" trope is comically overblown and wipes away most chances of serious examination of how wealthy interests actually disenfranchise the underprivileged; Prime Minister Honest's government doesn't seem to make a friggin' dime in taxes, leading me to wonder how they're financing all that porno torture, and those are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head. But it's those main characters, man. Even as cliche as they appear on the surface, I think the writer actually does a great job of making his band of walking shounen tropes into something more. Seryuu's bloody fanaticism shares equal space with an unexpected and endearing vulnerability combined with an actual sense of humor and social grace. It's easy to say that Esdese has no empathy, but she actually does in her own complex way and actually cares deeply about the welfare of her men. Ran's backstory itself is also amazing and shows a side of him that I honestly didn't expect. You can also say the same thing about Raba, who in the latest chapters showed some really amazing courage when everything so far has set us up to expect him to crack and betray his friends. Bors as well (we don't need to cover what happened to him). The characterization is much weaker for most of the Wild Hunt (although I will say that Champ the Clown was actually really interesting, despite how despicable he was), and Prime Minister Honest still remains a stereotypical and one-dimensional big-bad, but I kind of suspect that might change in time. Anyway, yeah, it's shounenshit with good writing, imo.

I'm not sure I'd ever call the writing in this series good. Serviceable, sure. Willing to surprise you (with sudden character deaths) sure. This series is violent action schlock, and is probably the closest we'll ever get to the ultraviolent OVAs from the 80s and 90s, and that's why I love it.

Mine's teigu is literally powered by death flags. The chances of her dying in a death flag filled manga like this is pretty mich nil.

If the manga-ka really wanted to show some balls and piss people off he could kill off Tatsumi and make Wave the new main character. I can seriously see this working. Wave is a good guy on the wrong side, he already knows the Empire is bullshit, he even has the same (and better!) Teigu. If I wanted to go all George RR Martin on the story I would do it. And holy poo poo the latest chapter... I know it's a terrible and sleazy manga but I have almost never been so excited for the next chapter in my life. Mine is owning it. I really like the anime's art style shifts; they really did that fight justice. Interestingly enough, the anime is diverging from the manga pretty heavily now, it looks like--everything's getting condensed to catch up, so they're skipping right past Wild Hunt (and good riddance) to the Shambala incident of recent chapters, so the big Esdeath fight during the Path of Peace arc is excised entirely. They're probably going to pass the manga, even... Which I'm all for, because the big fight should be awesome. I really like the romance they're condensing, though, so I'm sad about that. They date like actual people instead of animes, it's the damndest thing. "Hey, I like you." "I'm not sure yet if I really like you, but hey, let's give it a shot." And this isn't some kind of horrific kiss of death for the relationship.

Yeah they're really speeding things up to account for the few episodes remaining. Explains why they introduced Budo when otherwise they really couldn't have gotten to him. Hopefully we'll get to see him actually fight. I wish they had animated the spiel about the scythe Teigu. It was kinda hilarious to have a few pages about this mysterious lost Teigu and then Akame just chumps the guy using it.

Same here, not so much because of its positive qualities but more because it averts a bunch of anime tropes. In a regular anime there would be hints of a romance between Tatsumi and Akame with them possibly kissing/entering into a relationship at the very end. While I'm not a huge fan of Mine, she's at least more interesting than Akame is.

I'm really bummed out that they skipped a LOT of material including: Mine and Tatsumi start dating, Rin dying and becoming one of Kurome's puppets, the torture and (actual) death of Lubbock, and the introduction of the rest of the minister's squad They essentially went from chapter 38 to chapter 52

I've not been keeping up with the anime as I began reading the manga and have been caught up with that. So, today, on a whim, I watched the latest episode. And now, reading the last few posts, it appears the anime has skipped a lot. I expected that this season wouldn't be close to catching up, but as of today, it seems they surpassed the manga and the anime is either going for its own end or spoiling the manga now. Psuedo-Manga Spoiler: Since Susanoo is still alive in the anime and not in the manga I am guessing this is an anime-only ending. Looks like this months manga is either going to be late or filled with older stories.

Not surprised to hear this has moved into anime-only territory. The editing and general storyboard were all over the place for episode (21).

It's going full anime original ending, especially since manga spoilers Run is also dead well before this point. Back to episode 21, I highly doubt that Mein is dead, since it's anime and we didn't see her taking a fatal wound. It's just something to end the episode on a cliffhanger. I'm 80% sure she'll be alive (and likely unable to fight) next episode.

Well. That just. So, if Mine isn't dead, she's at least completely out of the fight with Pumpkin destroyed, Sue's about to get killed by Esdeath, who I seriously question how anyone can actually take out "I CAN FREEZE TIME AND SPACE NOW", and we're at risk of losing Akame next week if she can't take out her psychotic little sister. Jesus christ, who is even going to be left at the end of the series?

I don't think Esdeath has the Time Freeze powers, because they skipped over the entire arc which forced her to reveal it. Akame getting anything at this point would be enough because it stopped being about her like after the 1st arc.

Wave really has no reason at all to join up with Night Raid given that they have killed lots of his close friends. Still I have not watched the lasted few episodes so maybe something stupid involving him happened. Also yeah Budo was killed by Mine in the anime and in the manga he took quite possibly her strongest blast ever and was unscathed.
