The Cleveland police released the video of the 12-year-old getting shot. I don't recommend watching it, since it's a kid getting shot and killed, but the takeaway is that it took the officer about 2 seconds from arriving at the scene to blowing the kid away.

It's amazing the number of feats a cop can accomplish in a fraction of a second, ranging from using super speech to tell a child three times in a clear voice to drop a weapon (...a weapon apparently in their waistband, which is obviously a totally sensible command) to determining the psychological disposition of First Nations people who have their back turned to them. Truly the world's greatest tragedy is that the ability to tackle a 12 year old standing a foot away from them & packing a Nintendo zapper tucked into their pants is not among those feats. The cops in the Cleveland shooting are pants on head loving retarded. Who the gently caress drives right up next to someone suspected of brandishing a firearm? That is stupid. If the kid did have a gun, your rear end is toast. The cops are not only to blame for the death of the kid, but for the event leading up to it. There's no loving justification to bum rush the kid as he is not about to open fire. Kid barely had enough time to process what happened and he's laying on the ground dying. Also I didn't hear much about the story except the kid was pulling a gun out. This video is pretty damning towards the cops. Anyway this happened less than a mile from where I live.

He was pointing what appeared to be a gun. Very deliberately, he would twirl it around and occasionally stop to aim it down the street. There's not even anyone to blame in this situation. I mean I guess you could blame the parents but what's the point? For the police to pretend there was some attempt at de-escalation is laughable though. They should be like "yes we rolled up immediately and shot him, he appeared to be a danger to everyone on that street."

The cops knew they were going to shoot him before they even stepped out of the vehicle. EDIT: Also, the racist call-in from the cops after the shooting is the best: quote:"Shots fired. Male down. Okay, that's different - that looks more like a replica than a toy. Toys don't have things like working actions, and have really visible indicators on them. This is a toy gun. The plastic part at the end is standard among manufacturers (unsure if this is a government regulation thing or just a manufacturing standard), and frankly the texture on it just looks fake / wrong. I'd say that incident is significantly further on the tragic accident side than other recent events, except for the sheer quickness that the officer decided that the kid had to die. EXCEPT for that. edit: the news article I read earlier today just said that they told him multiple times to drop it and he didn't. As far as I know that would, sadly, be the police functioning as required. If the kid didn't hear or understand the instructions that's a whole other ballgame.
