curse your debating skills still gonna say eclipse is the most popular though, so if you don't want to be that guy who insists on using a different tool from everyone else in the team then it's probably worth getting comfortable with it there is no excuse for writing java in emacs, and i say this as someone who reads email in emacs

ive really tried to use eclipse twice while here because it is so well supported but the IDE is just dog poo poo. if microsoft had open sourced visual studio or even just made it cross platform and made it less poo poo over the years maybe we wouldnt be in this situation.
