redreader posted:I liked and played mass effect 1 and 2 and have never played 3. It finally hit (while I was watching) 10 bux so apparently it's time to buy it. Is the base game fine? What DLC do I need? The base version is 9.99 and the n7 version is 15bux. Which should I get? I haven't gotten around to playing the single-player DLCs, but everyone loves Citadel, and Leviathan seems well-regarded. From Ashes is significant enough that I'd call it a requirement. Also, don't forget that despite the single-player mode's woes, they pumped out five free DLC packs for the multiplayer, and there are still plenty of people playing it. You have to specifically download them like any other DLC, though.

Oh, yeah, From Ashes is great. Definitely get it because it's really intended as part of the main game experience. All the multiplayer DLC is worth it, too.

Thanks everyone! edit: What the gently caress, no controller support???? I am an old man who plays video games on the couch these days. Is there a way to get my ps3 controller (via the scp ds3 tool software) to work? Come on bros I thought this was an AAA game! redreader fucked around with this message at 09:05 on Nov 27, 2014 |

Hey now, the Trilogy is actually better on PC simply because the inventory is slightly better in ME1.

Mouse aiming makes the game too easy though. Headshot everything all the time at any range.

What no, don't give up that easy, any controller can be used with any PC game via Pinnacle Game Profiler or Xpadder (Pinnacle is superior and has better mouse emulation, plus acceleration control). You can download a trial and the full version is only $5: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/ I used this to play System Shock 1 in DOSbox with a wireless 360 pad. You can even set mouse co-ordinates to automatically move and click for you on buttons that are always in the same place on screen, like inventory panels and stuff.

Knowing that console gaming is superior to PC gaming isn't a gimmick. But having to read blowhards go on about the PC masterbating race over and over has pushed me over the edge.

The war table from Dragon Age: Inquisition is really what I think the Galaxy at War feature from ME3 wanted to be. You build power and influence all over the map by dispatching your specialists to perform tasks for you, gather resources, research upgrades, and unlock new areas. Unless you play 100+ hours you don't really have the time to do every little side mission so you have to pick and choose which ones you do. It's so much cooler than spamming spacebar while flying your toy ship around a star system until the Reapers arrive. I kinda wish ME3 had the feature first because it would have gone a long way toward making the gameplay feel like you were amassing this huge galactic coalition, even if in practice not much would be changed.

Yeah I was referring to ME3 where none of those resources do anything to effect the game in any meaningful way.

Just very out of place.

And a section or two with Benezia. But it was a nice subtle hint with how (do I even need to spoiler this?) Sovereign glows red inside during the tantrum, then the red cools off just as Saren does. Already the indoctrination was taking hold, and it was clear there was some connection between the ship and Saren.

I think the scene was probably hastily written out of convenience, in a "poo poo, nobody will actually know who Benezia is unless we show this" kind of fashion.

Waltzing Along posted:I think that when Saren throws his fit after Eden Prime may be one of the weirdest scenes in the series. The scene is fine on your first play through. That's like the second alien you encounter, maybe they are all like that. It's interesting to replay the first game after finishing the series so you can actually follow the plot instead of trying to remember what's what in the lore. "Did the Geth created the Assari to stop the Rachni or was it the other way around?" EDIT. Seeing it for the second time made me wish it was part of an MST3K episode. I just wanted to pop in here and mention that the PS3 port of Mass Effect 1 is really bad. The audio seems really loud or quiet(or just cuts out) at weird key moments, characters seemingly disappear during conversations, the frame rate dips way more than it should, load and autosave times seem to take forever, and basically the whole game just feels like it is about to fall apart as I play it. At least it's only hard locked my system once since I've been playing it.
