Don't need a holster if you never stop shooting.

I hope they patch in being able to arrange the order of shulk's buffs

Not that I ever use shulk, but seriously they put his least useful ones first. Maybe that's on purpose?

The idea behind Jump being first is probably so you can try to activate it when knocked far off the stage and still recover. I don't know if that holds up well in practice, though.

A few days ago, I played with a friend on Norfair (he plays more competitively and almost exclusively uses Lucina/Marth). He lost his first stock to a 9, then the next one to the Octopus and the last one to another 9.

It was sheer luck, but it was amazing :allears:

I played against a guy the other day who was desperately cycling through his buffs while falling back towards the stage. He kept accidentally skipping jump and then he forgot to even try to recover and just died. Was pretty funny.

With Shulk, I like to make sure I get stale moves for all the attacks I want to hit people and especially
finish them with, you want to accidentally let the opponents get to 250% only to kill them with a single
fair after you come back from a back slash SD.

Also, activating Shield when you would have settled for anything else, is recommended.

Trying to activate buster or smash when its too soon to do that is also a pro move

always, always, stand still doing usmash over and over, except when it will hit someone

Shulk's secrets reside in his tilts and neutral air and celebrating when you accidentally catch somebody in a vision. Also, a a secret horn plays when you manage to survive to 150% with shield activated.

I'm not sure if different counters have different effectiveness, but with Shulk I KO'd a Dedede who was at 50% by countering his rocket hammer so that was cool.

Pretty sure all counters are based on the strength of the attack you're countering. So a countered rocket hammer would hit loving hard.

Lucario's Double Team is based on nothing but his own Aura, so jabs and smashes will have him retaliate equally as hard, and Shulk's Vision is actually based on timing. The sooner it activates, the more damage and knockback it does - because it'd be pretty silly if he foresaw an attack that was late or, heaven forbid, never actually came.

I love playing Charizard as well but I'm not very good with him. Probably about 90% of my deaths are from charging off the side of the stage or getting knocked off at a low percentage and screwing up getting back on. How do I not suck at playing him??
Here's a post of mine from a few pages earlier:

.TakaM posted:

My use of Charizard focuses on 3 attacks.
Rock Smash, Flare Blitz, Flame Thrower.

Rock Smash is great because very few attacks in the game will interrupt it, you can stand right where King Dedede lands from an up-B and have a rock smash waiting for him. You can perform turn around rock smashes by immediately switching to left/right after pressing down B, this comes in handy because it can help ensure a safe landing.
Flare Blitz is the easiest way to kill, for yourself too, so make sure you're aware of when and where you can use it and still get back to stage. Pretty much never use it from a stand still, I usually use it before landing after jumping away from my opponent. It's also how you should get back to stage when you get launched to the top corners, it looks like you're helplessly tumbling after but you can surprise them with a rock smash or even another flare blitz
Flame Thrower is the easiest way to edge guard, just stand over the edge and spew fire downwards- this only works if you get there before they grab the edge or if they're really dumb and don't roll on stage. Be liberal with it, jump at your opponent with the flamethrower, jump away from your opponent and use flamethrower- I say use it all the time because most players can't handle the pressure, just be ready for them to try and jump over.

His jab combo and down tilt come out pretty quick for when you're in those face to face punch ups, I think I use his neutral-air the most out of his aerials, plus his forward tilt has good reach it's and quick too.

Charizard is cool
Some more Charizard tips:
Downsmash has pretty huge range and can be a nice surprise for anyone hanging on the edge without invincibility
Up tilt is an easy juggle on low percent opponents
One of my favourite ways to recover is to simply land on the edge of the stage with an appropriately angled flamethrower already going
If you're recovering low and jumping+up B won't reach, try to flareblitz into the side of the stage- if you hit the stage you can reach the edge with an up B most of the time.
Down throw to flare blitz works on most opponents until around 30%
Up throw to flare blitz works on most opponents around 70%, up throw(seismic toss) is fun because you regain control in the air after bouncing off the stage.
(these percents are not very accurate, and it depends on your opponents directional influence and if they tech the down throw)

But my main advice is to get good at not killing yourself with flareblitz and spam rock smash & flamethrower whenever possible

There's a huge Nintendo display at my mall with like eight Wii U's and twice as many 3DS setup. Two parents, a kid and a grandma were playing a fourway Smash on a giant screen. The grandma was Ganondorf and toward the end she got the smash ball but didn't use it and spent the final 20 seconds just marching back and forth doing his f-tilt while glowing with Final Smash energy. Whoever was playing Duck Hunt Dog won but grandma came in second and kept exclaiming "I came in second!" over and over. A cool grandma.

Monado Jump's huge buff to horizontal air speed, combined with "short"-hopped Nairs and Fairs, actually gives a capable Shulk an impressive command of the stage, and considerable gimping power.

So, uhh, I just got rocked by this Sonic player while playing as Wario and Little Mac. How on earth are you supposed to punish any of his attacks? It seems that his spin dashes are really, really good in this game, he has a crazy recovery that can't be intercepted, and it seems that even when he whiffs an attack, he can just run away to make his next move. Any advise playing against Sonic?

Sonic's Top Five material in this game and I love it. Your best hope is to hope he self-destructs off a bad d-air or side-b.

Watch when he starts charging a spindash. If he does the little hop before he takes off, then nine times out of ten he's going to jump once he hits you and do an aerial. Your strongest option is to shield and then punish.

I mained Wario in Brawl and one of the Wario vs Sonic strategies was to just open your mouth when he starts spindashing. Your hitbox will hit him before his hits you, and suddenly hedgehog is on the menu. You could try that if you haven't.

Sonic is definitely one of the more annoying characters in the game no matter who you are, so, you just gotta suck it up and learn it the hard way like the rest of us.

Got this game yesterday and so far I've been having a lot of fun playing Little Mac. I went online and did some For Glory matches and had a pretty rough but fun time; I haven't seen anyone talk about him in the last few pages, is he considered bad or just rarely played due to being new?

It's the opposite actually; the first few weeks of smash 3ds were filled with people spamming Mac in For Glory, but that's calmed down a bit now that most people know how to deal with him. Mac is a character with extreme strengths and weaknesses which informed players will take advantage of. As of a few weeks ago, he reportedly had the lowest win rate online. He's powerful, but that doesn't necessarily make him an easy character to play.

His big weakness is that his recovery is beyond terrible, and his air game (even when above ground) is not that great. Getting chucked off stage, even at relatively low percent, is extremely scary for Mac.
