I notice they're doing 2-stock matches here at Xanadu, when it was 3 stocks for Brawl and 4 stocks for Melee. Is that the standard now for Smash 4? Is Smash 5 going to go to the logical extreme and do 1-stock matches?

The duck hunt suicide thing was the funniest thing I've seen in smash in a long time

Here's a brawl tournament match from this May. Of course, they also do best of 5, so the matches still take some time.

The platforms are too high for Little Mac and Ganondorf to reach. The collision of the platforms isn't clear, and the stage is generally busy. I'm not ruling it out but there are already a lot of legal stages and it doesn't make a good first impression. The commentators were saying as such.

I don't know how counterpick bans work but can't Little Macs and Ganondorfs, in tournament setting, just say no Duck Hunt for the counterpick?

Fair points. Especially certain characters not being able to reach the tree platforms. Hadn't thought of that. Worst case it'll still be a stage I pick with my friends-- I mostly just like hitting ducks in the middle of a raging battle.

mabels big day posted:I don't know how counterpick bans work but can't Little Macs and Ganondorfs, in tournament setting, just say no Duck Hunt for the counterpick? They can - but that means not saying no to another stage that's bad for them. So rather than make keep stages A and B legal, just make B illegal and say no to A during the counterpick. Everyone wins! That's how a typical argument over stage lists goes and that's why Smash tournaments historically have less than a tenth of the available stages tourney-viable. Some are really obviously not okay, like Great Cave Offensive, but for others, all it takes is someone with some clout saying "it's bad because the colours hurt my eyes" or whatever and now we have a big ole' thing to talk about and nobody's going to get what they want in the end.

It depends on how drastically it affects character balance. If there are multiple large stages with platforms that give them trouble, and they can only ban one stage, then they'll always get hosed over by the counterpick. Likewise if Duck Hunt Dog winds up being high tier, they'll probably want to ban stages that give him even more of an advantage.

What's the rationale behind the regional differences in the name of the Duck Hunt character anyway?

Nope, it's a manufacturing problem, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it if it'll happen. It's a bad batch of flash memory, based on the symptoms. Go online all you like, or don't, but nothing can affect your chances of a brick. Better off finding out sooner, rather than later!

THE AWESOME GHOST posted:...Well that's poo poo It wasn't the content of the patch, it was the patching PROCESS triggering pre-existing flaws in the flash memory. For most new Wii U owners (who are most likely to have Wii Us from this recent bad batch), this is just their first gaming/patching experience on the hardware. Similar errors date back over a year from defective consoles, same error code and everything.

Can we talk about Pac Man? I've been playing him a lot lately and he's just so -fun-. He has a lot of different options to use. Here's what I've gathered so far. 1. There should always be a fire hydrant somewhere on the screen. 2. Your best options for fruit are Key, Apple, Melon, and Orange. 3. His dash attack is one of the best in the game. You can immediately go into a neutral-A combo after the attack if an enemy blocks it. 4. His grab is one of the worst in the game. 5. If you're far away and using his Up-B to get back on the stage, wait until the third bounce before trying to move. Any Pro-Pac-Points (PPP) that we should know?
