45 minutes to drive 8 loving miles on surface streets. Why? Oh, 4 drops of water fell out of the sky in the desert. Also, I'm irrationally angry at people who drive in bad weather with just their DRL's and no tails. If I lived somewhere where it rained more I'm pretty sure my head would explode in a year.

Dementia is a bitch. My mom's mother has it, and there's no telling "where" she is at any given moment. could be now, could be 1943. My wife's grandmom just forgets stuff. Not quite Alzheimer's, more short term stuff. My other remaining grandparent, my Dad's mom, is still trucking along. Good German stock, apparently. Christmas - I try to be happy, but I always feel guilty that I'm lusy at buying gifts. I'm no good at knowing what would be a good gift for anyone, even my immediate family, because I suck at "reading" people. That, and my dad either has, or goes and buys anything he needs/wants (well, not *anything*, but you know what I mean.) I also hate the crass commercialism of the season. I know it really doesn't matter to my family what I get them, or even if I get them anything, but that doesn't really assuage the guilt much, because I'm a human being, I guess. What I do enjoy about the season is getting together with family and friends, old favorite holiday specials (ALL the Rankin-Bass specials on DVD, baby!), and those moments when people actually do transcend the commercialism. Bought myself a XBONE a week or so before Thanksgiving (Costco had the Assassin's Creed bundle for $335. It only dropped $5 more elsewhere on Black Friday), because most of the friends I played with had one, so I couldn't game with them. Still can't, because they're all playing Destiny, and like an idiot, I bought COD: Advanced Warfare instead without thinking about it too much. Double gently caress-you bonus: I've not been able to play COD:AW multiplayer because Activision are fuckwits and broke server connectivity, or didn't test it to begin with. Battlefield 4, meanwhile, works great. Picked that up cheap ($19.99) from Microsoft, digital download, on Black Friday. Picked up Titanfall ($9.99) as well, and it is way fun - fast paced, no-wait respawn stuff like Halo, but with freaking giant robots added in. Also grabbed COD: Ghosts ($14.99 - that one was a physical copy) just to play the single player. Except the last few nights I've been playing Dishonored on my old 360, and liking that, especially since it was free. I still have plenty of games that I've not finished, and a few I've not started, on the 360. Xbox-ception: I'm routing the Xbox 360 through the XBONE (not enough HDMI inputs on my receiver or TV - older receiver, only has two.) edit: oh, gently caress, no suicide. I know poo poo hurts, and you may feel like there's no way out, but there is. Darchangel fucked around with this message at 18:46 on Dec 4, 2014 |

I loved Dishonored. Great game IMHO. Keep an eye out for the two DLC's Knife of Dunwall and Witches Somethingoranother to go on sale. Totally worth it. I'm trekking through Shadows of Mordor on the xbone right now. It's a bit shallow but the brutality of it is hilariously awesome.

I loved Bioshock, and Dishonored has a similar mechanic and feel. I also dig the alternate-reality steam-punkish aesthetic. I've seen gameplay videos for Shadow of Mordor, and will probably pick that up when it's cheaper. Looks like fun.

Dishonored is easily one of my top favorites. Compelling storyline, fun gameplay, and despite being fairly linear the side missions are delightfully distracted.

Maksimus54 posted:Down payment sucks, watching the principle not move for 5 years is worse Don't ever do a 30 year mortgage, especially if you're financing some large percentage... unless you're in it for more than 10 years, it's virtually paying rent to the bank. I switched to a 20 year a few years back and with that, and paying a little bit "extra" per month, it's nice to see the principle drop over a grand every couple months. I was in my first house almost 15 years and took off less than 25% of the principle. Lesson learned -- banks will gently caress those that don't know what they are doing.
