I think my favorite of the bunch was the Restoration era, during which people in Britain didn't 'trust' vegetables, and basically ate only meat, and were consequently lethargic, irritable, and smelly all the time. Is the part were they mentioned how people wouldn't drink water, but just something like ale? Cue to kidney stones and people dying during the painful operation to remove them. I love Supersizers by the way.

Salem is actually really good. I usually don't like watching TV series but something drew me to this one. It takes place during the salem witch trials and is a very good time piece. Basically it's a drama about witches influencing the trials. Worth a watch.

I watched a bunch of movies over the weekend and I would recommend two of them: Night of the Demons 2 and Blue Ruin. They aren't similar to each other in any way but if you like terrible early 90s horror or tense revenge dramas I would check them out.

It's basically just crazy people spouting nonsense about a movie. That's what I enjoyed about the documentary to be honest. I've always found those subcultures really interesting, I think Room 237 and a few other documentaries (Collapse comes to mind) are more about the person behind the theory than the theories themselves.

I introduced my girlfriend to the show Chuck on Netflix a few months ago, and she loved it. It's been great revisiting such a fun show with such a great selection of music in it. If you like spy stuff, fun action, touching moments, guns, and pretty people , give it a shot!

Black Mirror is now on US Netflix, no spoofing required. And it's so loving good. I think it's best to go into it knowing as little about it as possible, for maximum headfuck.

I'd have to say my current recommendations for US Netflix accounts are: Peaky Blinders is a wonderful BBC show about a Roma/Gypsy small time family criminal group in post WW1 Birmingham, England. The group is initially known for small time horse betting/grifting, but some unexpected guns come into the mix which leads to one family member attempting to grown the business with thwarting the investigation into the guns. Its a show that builds well and has wonderful acting. The first season left at an awesome cliff hanger. The second season's cliffhanger is doubly amazing. Cant wait for S3. Peep show is my other current favorite old time show on 'flix. Its pretty much two polar opposite personalities as roomys who are individually trying to get their dicks wet and unintentially gently caress each other over in the process. Also occasionally gently caress themselves over the pursuit. Its a bit odd because you get a lot of 'head speak' where the characters thought process is narrated while in first person view which is odd at first, but is great down the line because lets be honest - we've all had some dumb thoughts that lead to our even dumber actions. This show touches on that a good bit and pushes the awkward limit in some cases. Just see: Superhans. Other notable recommendations: Blue Ruin I Saw the Devil Hell Always Sunny The Office Portlandia Transparent(on Amazon Prime) onemanlan has a new favorite as of 20:35 on Dec 2, 2014 |

Here to recommend The Machine, a low-budget British sci fi/noir thriller about artificial intelligence. (Free on Netflix now.) In the previous thread someone described it as "proof you don't need a kajillion dollars to make a compelling sci fi film," and I wholeheartedly agree. If you like Terminator or Blade Runner this is definitely for you. It features great performances and a killer synth soundtrack right out of its source material. The dog one is good too. The whole drat show is good except for the fact production slowed down. Anyhow to not risk a derail I'll also suggest Broad City on Amazon Prime. If you like Sunny, Peep Show, Workaholics, and/or 30 rock this show might be for you. It's a show about 2 'indepndent' girls living in NYC and the ensuing hijinks they run into while stoning through life. It has an interesting feminine take on humor that I can't quite place my finger on, but love none the less. There are a number of good comedians who pop up throughout the show. One of my favorites, Hannibal Buress, is in most of the episodes as well. Definitely worth a watch if you get the chance.

I just finished Alphas. It was a really good show if you like the whole superhero thing, but it ends on a crazy cliffhanger that never got resoled and probably never will be. Still, drat good show.

Fishstick posted:They also just added a bunch of the older Bond movies Live and Let Die and A View To A Kill are both pretty bizarre, but still worth watching. Live and Let Die is basically a blaxpolitation movie involving James Bond, so it's the only Bond film to involve the word "honky" as well as a car chase featuring a pimpmobile. A View to a Kill was the last film Roger Moore did, and it's pretty obvious throughout the movie that he was too old (57) for the part, especially since he was older than the mother of the actress playing the love interest. If you can get past the geriatric Bond and a pretty ridiculous chase sequence, it's a decent movie, and Christopher Walken is really good as a psycopathic microchip mogul.

I think the last version of this thread was where someone mentioned Snuff Box which I loved very much. The theme song is permanently stuck in my head. It's a British sketch show about a hang man and his assistant. I always love sketch shows like this, where everything interconnects and maintain a theme throughout. Mr. Show will probably always remain my favorite sketch comedy show but that's not streaming. However, Comedy Bang Bang has two seasons on Netflix with the third coming in at the end of December. There are some really funny actors, comedians and musicians involved in this show and it is an amazing send up of talk shows as well as some offbeat humor. I love it but ymmv comedy is subjective etc.

It gave me a new respect fore the Daniel Craig bond, because it is very much the closest to the real character that any actor has come. The books are pretty much Mad Men, if the guys all had literal licenses to kill. I saw Casino Royale before I read the book and just assumed that whole 'wicker seat with the bottom cut out' torture scene was a modern addition. It wasn't. Ian Fleming really loving loved torturing characters.

One day I will marry Reggie Watts. We will still bang chicks but there will always be an unspoken connection between us. One day, when we are old, he will look across the room at a dinner party and give me a warm smile. It is then that I know our love is real and eternal. Also, Doug Dynasty is up if you like stoner stand-up, I guess.
