Yes, Gunther is being a tool about his mom, but it's toolishness based on a mama's boy leaving home for the first time and being horrified that the old lady wants a life of her own once his room's empty. It's hateful on the little twerp's part, but as at least one of you pointed out, it's plausibly hateful...more plausible than the scenario that got us into this mess in the first place. And of course, miles closer to realistic than my artificially high watermark for infuriating out-of-touchness, Les GodDAMN Moore. I'm actually interested in seeing how the "Gunther's mom" angle plays out. Pogo (December 6, 1956) Peanuts: Year Two (November 29 - December 1, 1951) Super-Fun-Pak Comix This is a reference, too. Santa doesn't deliver to dogs. They don't have souls, after all. Skippy (September 30, 1927) Calvin Coolidge was the President in 1927, and he had the idea that there was Native American blood in his family tree somewhere, which most historians believe was a yarn his grandmother told him. He did sign the Indian Citizenship Act in 1924, so maybe it did some good. Peanuts (December 8, 1967) Funky Winkerbean Popeye Rip Haywire Out Our Way will be along later...it's been a rough morning.

I think she's supposed to be doing the "I have my eyes on you" gesture, as made famous by Robert De Niro in Meet the Parents. I didn't even think of what that particular hand configuration would mean to a British reader, and clearly neither did Brooke.
