I'm just going to assume Kite was derivative of old gritty crime/revenge action flicks, and Hollywood couldn't help but be derivative of that.

According to MAL, it came out on the 29th, so it should already be out. You know, being an OVA and all, it doesn't air on TV.

I was under the impression that the 29th was just when it screened in a few Japanese theaters, not the day it came out on video. I guess it could also have been the release date, though.

I didn't release but the season 1 & 2 BRs only came out a few months ago.

Umetsu is a talented animator/director [less so as a writer] who made porn because that was the only way he could get the funding he needed to do an original work. And aside from Mezzo Forte and Kite [which do have non-porn versions on DVD and streaming], the rest of his stuff is not porn.

Umetsu's been animating since the 80s (the Zeta OP is his solo work, in fact!) and is a very talented animator but all his original stuff is pretty skeevy. He however has a ton of friends in the industry so when he makes a show there tends to be a lot of standout animation in it since he'll get his buddies to contribute for a few episodes (Wizard Barristers ep1, for example). That's really all you need to know. aers fucked around with this message at 18:50 on Dec 5, 2014 |

Everyone interested in animation as an art form should watch Wizard Barristers Episode 11. It's utterly hilarious, and context from the rest of the (mediocre-to-bad) show is unnecessary.

Wizard Barristers, really, really needed a writer who knew his poo poo. It had everything going for it, and the first episode was loving badass. It then degenerated into sheer stupidity when in episode 3 the senior employee lets a criminal loose in the court of law due to his martyr complex. It progressively gets worse from there. I maintain that episode 1 of Wizard Barristers is awesome and y'all should watch it (at least the opening). Just don't watch past that point. Darth Walrus posted:Everyone interested in animation as an art form should watch Wizard Barristers Episode 11. My fave part of what I watched of Wizard Barristers is when the guy who was accused of being part of a gang was let go when they had a surprise witness, a guy who was part of the gang the defendant was accused of being part of who said the defendant wasn't a part of his gang. I see no reason for the gang member to lie about that and heck, neither did the judge.

Get this: the magic spell they use when they sentence someone isn't actually some sort of death spell, it teleports them to prison. As far as I could tell it got a lot dumber as it went on!
