Code Geass, Aldnoah Zero, Gundam - I'm sick of your highfalutin mechs and robots. Give me the genius robotic creations of people with no actual skill set. Give me the hero's robot that's only function is to shake powdered soup. The antagonist's robot made of two cheap sets of motorized wheel bases, stuck to a piece of paper, that its opponents just drive over and out of the ring. Give me a tissue box that walks on legs of vibrating dildoes!

lovely robot wars is the final frontier of sports anime.

I literally spent 7 minutes and 59 seconds laughing my rear end off.

Kinda wish the "records and rolls downhill" robot would have won tho, it was my favorite.

Technically true - remember that bit where the heroine falls off a building and ends up busting through to a subway?

I'm just going to assume Kite was derivative of old gritty crime/revenge action flicks, and Hollywood couldn't help but be derivative of that.

Holy poo poo the director has quite the resume. If I had known his previous works, I would have avoided giving G-Donna and Wizard Barristers the three episode test. :yikes:

I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna!!!

According to MAL, it came out on the 29th, so it should already be out. You know, being an OVA and all, it doesn't air on TV.

I was under the impression that the 29th was just when it screened in a few Japanese theaters, not the day it came out on video. I guess it could also have been the release date, though.

It's not. Nov 29th was the theatrical release. I think it's supposed to be on TV in Dec/Jan then a BR release in "a few months". I didn't release but the season 1 & 2 BRs only came out a few months ago.

Not a lot from what it looks like. He has much more character designer and animator credits than directing ones. Fwiw, if it's anything like the manga scene in Japan, working on hentai is basically just another way refine ones skills before actually getting to mainstream works.

For I am a dog, you see.
Umetsu is a talented animator/director [less so as a writer] who made porn because that was the only way he could get the funding he needed to do an original work. And aside from Mezzo Forte and Kite [which do have non-porn versions on DVD and streaming], the rest of his stuff is not porn.

Umetsu's been animating since the 80s (the Zeta OP is his solo work, in fact!) and is a very talented animator but all his original stuff is pretty skeevy. He however has a ton of friends in the industry so when he makes a show there tends to be a lot of standout animation in it since he'll get his buddies to contribute for a few episodes (Wizard Barristers ep1, for example).

That's really all you need to know.

It's funny how loving fantastic Wizard Barristers episode 1 looks because from what I heard, they pretty much ran out of money entirely by the last few episodes.

Everyone interested in animation as an art form should watch Wizard Barristers Episode 11. It's utterly hilarious, and context from the rest of the (mediocre-to-bad) show is unnecessary.

Seraphic Neoman

Wizard Barristers, really, really needed a writer who knew his poo poo. It had everything going for it, and the first episode was loving badass. It then degenerated into sheer stupidity when in episode 3 the senior employee lets a criminal loose in the court of law due to his martyr complex. It progressively gets worse from there.
I maintain that episode 1 of Wizard Barristers is awesome and y'all should watch it (at least the opening). Just don't watch past that point.

Honestly the show died well before that point. It's just that it became apparent there.

My fave part of what I watched of Wizard Barristers is when the guy who was accused of being part of a gang was let go when they had a surprise witness, a guy who was part of the gang the defendant was accused of being part of who said the defendant wasn't a part of his gang.

I see no reason for the gang member to lie about that and heck, neither did the judge.

Get this: the magic spell they use when they sentence someone isn't actually some sort of death spell, it teleports them to prison. As far as I could tell it got a lot dumber as it went on!
