Guess what, you are correct. I think it's bugged or something because I go back there and she isn't even there or whatever. I don't recall what the hell I was supposed to be doing at this point.

Ami Legend wrecked my poo poo and I had to cheese the instance system to get someone in to help my beat it.

It is a bad quest

In most cases it's just a ramp up in difficulty and it used to be a solo instance. I didn't replay the early content much and I don't remember any bugs. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they patched in bugs though.

It's an escort quest, isn't it? Those are always awful, and if it involves Ak'ab, that would only make it worse. Also, you have to do it solo.

He's outta line...

But he's right!
Ami Legend ticks all of the checkboxes:
  • Wave Defense
  • Escort
  • A'kab
  • Boss
  • Solo Instance

It also occurs fairly early in progression where a player might have a weak build and it's always been regarded as one of the hardest combat missions.

One of the other major problems is you don't regenerate health if you're anywhere near Ami while she's channeling when the waves of Ak'ab attack. So if you aren't prepared to either move away from her between waves or bring in other healing stuff to compensate it'll probably take you by surprise and kill you.

Or the final encounter just breaks and Ami sits there with a thumb up her rear end. Happens all the time.

I used to do the Ami Legend quest a lot when I was grinding to redo my build for Egypt. I don't remember it being that hard, but like Len said maybe some bugs got patched in. The last time I actually did that mission was probably a few months after the game was released.

I hosed around with it a bit, there is now an AEGIS category for shields you can put points in. Then my connection poo poo itself which I can't really fault the game for though.

Mob density is still way too high though, it's impossible just to get around without pulling to or three packs and getting killed. Or fighting one mob without pulling two or three more packs and getting killed.

Edit: v Nah, it was everything not just the game.

ami legend wasn't too bad. i managed to do it solo as a newbie(after 3 tries).
that mission forced me to switch from single enemy attacks-high damage build to area attack/tank build with actual healing.
i ended up dying twice at the final boss, consumable health potions & damage buffs got me through that fight.

Yeah that's a 180 on the old Close Quarters + Perjury/Exploitation nerf that made it rear end to do the spore dudes in Trans for signets.

In fact, it seems to go beyond that and make them have the status the whole time, not just at the point of application like before.

Easy way to beat Ami legend: Do not stand near Ami, stay at the entrance of the cave. That's it. I beaten it on my first try, no leaching, next to no healing.

It's one of the issue 10 missions. It's started by the first story NPC you meet, so you shouldn't have to worry about missing it.

Running Nightmares and PVP is the source I used back in the day. But now there are other options, you can get purples from running episode 6 and 7 (I think it's those) missions enough to buy some purple items and glyphs from a couple new venetian agents in Egypt and Transylvania.

E: You can also get some in Tokyo, but grinding those seems like something to avoid. I barely could stand it enough to get my Aegis stuff to level 3.

Welp that'll show me. I pretty much wanted to do that after the story poo poo.

For gearing up yeah, mission packs are great. If you can find people let them drag you through dungeons, that's how I got most of my purpz. I recommend not trying to grind too much of issue 8, you can just buy your way out of it for a million Pax. Also probably group up when starting out in Tokyo, friend of mine recently started and it was super frustrating for him.

Remember the best starting-Tokyo advice: go to the auction house and buy four QL0 or QL1 AE Capacitors. That makes a huge difference, and I wish I'd known about it when I started there.

Does the new Aegis shield system actually do anything? I finally did the mission to get it, I see the shield go down but it doesn't seem to reduce the incoming damage all that much. Also, it doesn't do anything against the old Tokyo mobs, which seems a bit silly.

All in all, is there a reason to use these shields? I thought they would work like the mobs shields where I don't take any damage until they are down.

I think they're about to get more helpful. They had a patch yesterday or today, and they decreased new Tokyo mob damage a bit. As well as dropping the price of memory expansions.

I believe that already went out. Memory expansions are only 5 & 10 tokens now. I try not to think about the wasted tokens that I won't be refunded.
