I read through that recently and they basically used nothing sony provided just coding on the bare metal for the most part. Then they went and invented their own language for the sole purpose of programming Crash which they ended up using until very recently. Actually interesting stuff. The funniest bit was when they unveiled it at E3 no one believed them that it was all real time gameplay. Crash and Mario 64 hold very special places in my autism laden heart.

I bought the commander pack off GOG a while ago. Is it worth trying out setting up a multiplayer game? I'd be down as all hell. Any game where you can get a mobile version of the biggest laser defence tower there is is ok in my books.

There's a ton of really loving good mods of FS2, such as the fan port of FS1 and a fan remake of its expansion pack which is far better than the original. Make sure you're launching FS2 via the launcher.exe Point it at the FSOpen executable fs2_open_3_7_2_RC3_SSE.exe Goto the mod tab and select fsport-mediavps, this is in your Freespace 2 directory Launch the game and you should be able to select the Freespace 1 and Silent Threat Reborn campaigns from the campaign room. There's also some graphical stuff you can turn on in the features tab like 3d shockwaves, post processing and fxaa. I'd also disable the motion debris since it looks lovely and low res these days.
