General question, I'm looking into buying a Wii game to play on the Wii U (Xenoblade Chronicles) and I understand I also need to buy a separate controller for Wii games. Is the Wiimote plus enough or do I need to look for a Classic controller as well?

Wiimote and Nunchuck is all you need for Xenoblade.

And the camera is really and truly terrible, to the point where this is the one Mario game I wouldn't want my nephew to play until he gets past the controller throwing stage of adolescence. Plus, I'm not sure exactly why but the controls don't feel anywhere near as "tight" as 64 or Galaxy. Sunshine isn't a bad game, but it definitely has the most problems of any Mario game. It also gave us the "secrets" stages so I'm alright with it overall (pachinko sucks though)

You can play it with a classic controller too, but unless you want one for other reasons you don't need one.

Super Mario Sunshine is cool because people complain that they want more collectables that mean something in a 3D mario game (since lives are worthless) but when they did just that people flipped out and complained that finding them all was hard even though I don't think that was the intention. Like, 100% completing the game just gets you a picture after the credits. YOu don't have to collect all the blue coins if you don't want to.

The problem with Blue coins is some of them only appear in a few of the seven iterations of each stage, or maybe even just one. You can look at your totals to see what stages coins are still hidden in, but there's no way to tell which of the seven stars you need to pick. In any game with collectibles it needs to be clear the general area to go to search for the ones you haven't got yet.

King Crab posted:I'm interested in picking up a Wii U, if I grabbed the basic model and then got an external hard drive then that beats the big plus the deluxe model has over it, right? Probably, I haven't seen the basic model anywhere in the wild though. The Skylanders bundle is supposed to have the basic set presuming that exists, but even then you probably won't be saving much over just grabbing the SM3DW bundle (since you should be buying that game anyway) and at best it'll probably still cost more than the Deluxe refurbs from Nintendo. So, you should probably just hold out for more refurbs to come into stock if you can.

I did it. I've 100% completed Captain Toad in roughly 12 hours. All I have left to do is the time trials. Completing that last level was so satisfying. Ultigonio fucked around with this message at 01:29 on Dec 8, 2014 |

What you need to do is run further ahead and wait for more blocks to fall. They won't fall if you stay put because they'd land on your head. So you need them to show up and then you can run back and get the gem. I've got 1000 more coins to get in the maze, taking a breather before jumping back in. Here goes nothing. That's all, no promise or plan, just a hypothetical response to a question.

If you're feeling bad about Captain Toad kicking your rear end, check this out from Sunshine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhP08HvrmBo Took me about five tries before I went, "Yep, not spending an entire night on one poorly designed hellacious challenge." To make it even funnier, it takes a solid five minutes of just... waiting for two boats to come your way to even get to the entrance. I have no idea how I ever managed to 100% sunshine as a kid, that is madness distilled to a single level.

Well just completed book 3, and now all I have left is bonus content, as well as a few challenges I was like "gently caress it I'll come back to it later". The game is so good. In typical Nintendo style, the last several levels REALLY ramp up in difficulty almost out of nowhere. edit: anyone who says this game doesn't have enough content for even a $40 game is a lying piece of poo poo garbage Macaluso fucked around with this message at 04:59 on Dec 8, 2014 |
