Yeah they had a few technical problems at the LAN centre, it's all fixed up for map 2 which is live now though. There can often be a big of downtime between maps as they get things set up, I just tab out to something else. Edit: Froyotech take it 5-2 5-2, looking crazy coordinated right now. Re: 2fort It's a bad map, but it has two redeeming qualities. 1. Probably the most efficient way to grind underwater kills 2. It can actually be quite fun if the entire server agrees on melee only. Way back when there was a bunch of micspam servers, where if 2fort came up on rotation or if it for some reason won the vote, there was a wordless agreement that we would play it melee only by default, unless someone came up with some other fun gimmick. It's a refreshing take on that boring map and I've been waiting for a medieval version for years. If the Friday Night Funhavers ever return, meleefort could be a nice warmup for the gimmick of the night.

pisshead posted:edit: why is there no timer, and how does map tNA work compared to EU where it's just a 30 minute map? I think it's sorted by the ESEA plugin rather than the actual server cvars so the HUD doesn't show it? In any case, ESEA runs 30 minute halves, with the first half being first to 3 rounds and the second half being first to 5 overall. I think it's the same for KOTH but first to 4 overall. Next match is scheduled for 15 minutes time on the ESEA site, so hopefully in the next half hour???

Tf2 : ahhh I dunno. I've been playing it constantly and don't get bored which is highly unusual for me. I think it's because I'm still learning the ropes . I hated the map on tfc but I think mainly due to cosmetics, it looked awful! I love it when the enemy team doesn't defend THE WHOLE POINT of the game and you can strut in with a scout and get the Intel unapposed.

True. I used to love that tfc map which was similar to 2fort, it had tunnels in the middle and the water was green. The flag room was a fucker.

Didn't someone totally fix 2fort so that it wasn't a chokepointy shithole by adding tunnels in the sewers that connected to the underground area

Doublecross was created to "fix" 2fort, play a few rounds and you can feel the similarities. The layout and "macro" of the maps are extremely similar, only with vastly different scale and some replacements (a pit instead of water, for instance). I still don't think Doublecross is all that fun, but it's easily the most fun CTF map (shortest giant highest sinkhole etc man do I not care for CTF!) KOTH is where it's at. Load up some Harvest, Lakeside, Nucleus. One person can radically make a difference, particularly on a Valve server, but it rewards teamwork: as the game should!

koth_nucleus is my designated chill-with-TF2 map, because the outer circle is real good for roaming and for some reason nobody ever goes to the ground-level area to the left of the red spawn (blue spawn? I don't remember), so I can just hang out there and get health back wherever.

That's Froyotech guaranteeing a spot in the grand final tomorrow. They're playing crazy nice today, the wonder scout duo pulling more than their weight and the rest of the team playing so well around Shade that he's barely died outside of midfights all LAN. Last game tonight will be Classic Mixup vs Elevate to decide who goes home in 3rd place and who gets to challenge Froyotech for the championship.

Is there anything more infuriating than trying to play a serious gamemode like 5cp on a valve server?
|
# ? Dec 7, 2014 10:14 |

5CP can be some of the best that TF2 has to offer but it requires a certain amount of coordination on both teams and a good ratio of fast combat classes to support classes to really shine. When you have have the classic Valve server meta of 3 combat classes and 5 engies per team, you're probably not in for a good time. --- In other news, the ESEA grand final is set to start in the next half hour! For the first time in 9 seasons, Classic Mixup has been denied a top 2 finish thanks to Elevate. Now all that remains to be seen is if Elevate can take down the i52 world champions, Froyotech, for the ESEA season 17 championship. Tune in to ESEA Orange to check it out. Edit: Finals are live! Offclassing all over the place, Ma3laa spent the last half of the second map entirely on Pyro, Clockwork went as Spy for one midfight. It looked in the beginning like Froyotech was going to sweep Elevate with no problem, but they rallied after the first couple rounds and gave a good showing.

New melee weapon idea for heavy. instead of autofiring, you only hit once you release the mousebutton. If you tap it quick you'll hit as fast but as weak as the scout, the longer you hold the punch though, the more damage you'll do when you release. If you hold a full charge for long enough it'll become a garanteed crit. This sounds pretty broken, but then again you can't use any other weapons while you're charging, and you still only move at heavy speed, so if you actually manage to hit someone with a fully charged shot, you probably earned it. Plus, don't give it the POW taunt. You could make it the wrench from Opposing Force, or the lead pipe the heavy was originally going to use. Or a new and wacky rocket powered first design maybe.

Get the actor to record some hammy western lines done with the heavy's accent: "Fill tiny baby hands." Couple with a mechanically turned gatling gun that doesn't slow the heavy down while revved up but must be reloaded with a process similar to eating a sandvich. Make western/antique heavy all about managing your position and your attack cadence - recover from a big swing, reload the gatling gun when you have the chance, use it for a running battle once ready. And just because this idea needs something for the secondary slot, a freaking huge single action revolver that actually shoots very big, very slow bullets, actual projectile attacks, not hitscan.

Anatharon posted:What's the best way to practice with the sniper rifle? I like sniping but people in TF2 move really fast. My two cents is to play with the piss rifle. Since you'll be less worried about getting headshots every time, you can focus on tracking people and just taking the shot. Then switch back to whichever other sniper rifle you were using and focus on the heads. Usually I suggest switching classes, but I'm not sure if that would help with Sniper. Maybe go Ambi + DR Spy and become the immortal headclicker?

Heavy has enough fists. What he needs is more shotguns/secondaries. Like one with knockback for getting people out of your face or off a point/cliff/whatever. Or maybe one with a side effect of increasing the self regen rate on attached medics. The problem with any replacement though is the sandwich. Its used by everyone because its an emergency health kit for both the heavy and others. Anything that replaces it needs to have that team support aspect. Like a backpack that, when being healed by a medic, creates a healing aura so nearby players have a small amount of HP regen. Or one that provides some damage resistance to nearby players when you get ubered. Things that make the heavy the center of a teams push instead of just someone who takes a little longer to kill and cant chase you.
