I'm sure what WWE and Punk can and cannot due in terms of using his likeness and character are pretty well hammered out in their settlement, which Punk seems to think is very favorable for him.

It's kind of ironic that the last guy coming into the UFC at 0-0 (that I can remember) is now training to be a pro wrestler. Really makes you think that Matt Riddle is going to be a world champion in a couple of years.

The reason we made fun of "Cung Le, Actor" wasn't because he was an actor trying to fight. He was a fighter in Strikeforce at the time, but promoting a film at a UFC event, and they didn't acknowledge his fighting career at all.

i agree with the people who said it would be more favorable for Phil Punk to get mollywhopped on the regonal circuit, why would a business that runs for profit seize that opportunity to make millions of dollars? Smart move is let him fight in Bellator for practice, really. Thanks guys

Borrowed Ladder posted:In regards to Punk coming out to Cult Of Personality, does that work on a legal level? I know Punk owns the rights to his name, but does WWE have any claims as far as WWE Superstar CM Punk? Could he make a t-shirt in the same font that says Best In The World, wear his actual WWE tights, and come out to the song? Could WWE sue UFC for some sort of IP theft? WWE has no rights over anything CM Punk. Sure, he can't just cut and paste a WWE brand t-shirt as his own, but he can obviously make his own shirts. Cult of Personality is Living Colour's song that WWE licensed, so it can be used for whatever. Although they MAY own their cut version of the song, who knows. Its also an awesome song and he should use it. I think the whole legal situation is over, and doubt Vince wants to gently caress with the UFC. Him and Dana have a good relationship. I've never seen a wrestling event with Chick Magnet but at some point in 2015 a PPV will screech to a halt for 15 minutes so he can act out his midlife crisis by beating up the homeless. He's pretty obviously just a gimmick, which is fine, but I'm not sure why I'd be excited about it? Good fights are good fights and Punk isn't going to be having any.

I wouldn't say I'm excited but I am really curious as to who they put him against/how much he can put together with no fighting experience/how it affects viewers and possible pay per view buys. I just hope he doesn't embarrass himself I guess, but they'll give him every opportunity to succeed by pitting him against the canniest of cans for a while.

cung le was also very good at sanshou, which wasn't exactly a big pool of talent, but he was obviously fantastic at it. he had a real and existing background in wrestling and tae kwon do, which is a lot different than punk's aubergine belt in kenpo under joey coco diaz

Rogan would probably beat Punk only marginally less than the actual UFC fighters would in all likelihood. He might not be a fighter, but he's legit good at Taek Won Do and probably good at BJJ too.

Honestly not a kick. That batista YouTube link was the first thing I've ever seen. I have checked out the op of the combat fights sticky and learnt a thing or two. Didn't know there was different companies like bellator and UFC for a start! I suppose I personally prefer the fake stuff as I enjoy the athleticism as well as the corniness. I don't enjoy boxing too much either unless it's a big fight and I'm with friends. I'm more excited about punk signing with UFC than anything WWE have put out in an age though so will definitely be giving UFC a serious watch. Might read up on Brock's career.

I doubt there will be any legal action from the WWE unless Punk goes on to say something that would constitute as slander or libel. They publicly wished him well on the WWE website today - one would assume that means they've turned the page on this chapter and are moving on.

WWE isn't going to press their legal luck because there's no upside to putting the screws to Punk that's worth the risk of *gasp* having to provide health insurance to their roster

They'll probably namedrop him a few times on commentary passive aggressively wishing him well in his upcoming fight and book AJ to be in some humiliating angle but outside of that they won't do poo poo so I dunno why anyone would be worried about it
