She is the only companion that 100% of the time, every time you talk to her (well, outside of her character specific missions that you had to choose to go on), has a GTFO :byewhore: button. So...there's that!

edit: Apparently the latest patch for the game doesn't fix one of the biggest concerns (music and characters are dead silent for hours at a time), but it does apparently set every platforms character creation options to the Xbox 360 levels, which means 3/4s of the complexions and all scars have suddenly vanished.

What's dragging down Dragon Age Inquisition for me is that when I try to start the game it crashes anywhere from two to ten times before finally launching properly.

Two things dragging down Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes:

- You can't access the controls menu while in the middle of a mission. As far as I can tell, you can just look at/change controls from the main menu but not in-game.
- Unskippable cutscenes (as far as I can tell) in the main Ground Zeroes mission. Coming from MGS4 where you could skip and pause cutscenes, that's just lazy.

EDIT - And save checkpoints. Every game in the series has let you save wherever the gently caress you want with a dedicated Codec/radio frequency, so having to play up to a random checkpoint to save before I can turn the game off is just an odd feature lapse.

You can't be mean to anyone in the game, you have to play it like a good guy.

There's only character in the game you can be a dick to, and that's the trans soldier that's part of some pirates band, if you do take the be a mean options you lose the most approval with everyone that you possibly can, and I mean a gigantic hit in approval, the most of any in the game, nothing comes even close to how much approval you can lose if you're mean to that particular character.

...when does that even come up? Every time I talk to him it's just "How can I use your organization" and "tell me about your organization." Is it that one time you get invited to hang out for like five minutes?

You can be mean to some other characters here and there, including punching at least one guy, but it has to be provoked by getting their approval really low.

Okay, Resident Evil 4, right? Never played it when it came out, but I just picked up a copy a few weeks back because everybody tells me how it's the best game ever and how can you have never played Resident Evil 4? So now I've played it, beat the main game, trying to unlock all the characters for Mercenaries Mode. Love the game, it easily lives up to the hype, but one thing's bothering me, one thing keeps this game from being perfect: You can't turn off the music. When I'm playing the same level over and over trying to get four stars to unlock Hunk or Wesker, and I'd kind of like to listen to my own music, I have multiple playlists that are specifically for murdering hundreds of dudes. But I can't use them because there's no way to turn off the music. Sure, I can mute the TV but the sounds warn me about enemies I can't see who are about to try to chew on my face or just chainsaw it right the gently caress off. So I either play the game with the game's music, or not at all.

Great game otherwise.

Yeah, the base combat is just really clunky and mediocre. They'd have to do a lot more than a few tweaks for it to be good.

Strikes need to be a lot more responsive, satisfying, and combo-able, which would probably require making Y/Triangle a second attack button for your primary weapon. Basically, steal the combat engine from Ninja Gaiden and make it a bit less crazy and over the top.

Not that that'll ever happen. poo poo, the Ninja Gaiden dudes themselves ended up ruining their own combat system in the sequels.

Since we're on the RE4 track right now, it kind of annoys me that you can't aim and move at the same time. I'm not sure if it's a conscious design decision, or a hold over from older games, but all the same it's annoying.

To be fair to it though, it does make the game intense as hell.

It's absolutely a conscious design decision and it absolutely does make the game intense as hell. I'd actually say that it's one of the things that makes RE4 really good, that every time you want to shoot it puts you at risk.

I remember when RE4 came out, the game just felt so detailed and well-loved. There are tons of unique art assets that make every area feel unique.

The inability to move while aiming means you got to run around a lot and funnel your enemies through chokepoints. It helps that you're not facing enemies with guns. Sometimes I see that people prefer the wii version for aiming, but there are few things as satisfying as really mastering the laser-pointer aiming on the GameCube controller, and shooting axes out of the air as they flew at you.

now I really want to beat re4 again.

I think RE4 was really good for two reasons. The first is the really satisfying mechanics. Blasting ganados in the head and the resulting squelching sound was so good. Everything just had a lot of impact. The second is that the game was not afraid to just take its time and let the strong mechanics stand on their own. A lot of the sequences (like the opening village battle, or some sections in the castle) might seem like they would go on too long but the gameplay is just so intense and good that they just work.

I could gush about RE4 for a really long time, it is such a goddamn good game.

It's actually pretty good but it's one of those games where you have to insist on playing it the "right" way or it's just a frustrating mess, that means using the environment, using the stealth system, and generally planning things out and using all the tools available to you.

For the longest time I had no idea why people raved about the opening level in the village because I just stood still and headshot people until they got too close, ran to the other side of the village, shot people until they closed in on me, repeat until the bell rings and they all ran away. Going into a house or climbing a tower where you'd be trapped or blindsided didn't make any sense when you could just stay in an open area and shoot at people as they slowly shuffle towards you so I never encountered any of the cool scripted stuff that blew everybody else away.

I really did not mind Ashley, actually. She's handled about as well as you could do. She always stands right behind you, she ducks when you aim at her, and in most of the difficult fight setpieces they let you toss her in a dumpster so you don't have to worry about her.

Yes and it's not always 100% clear about this either. Like a few of the boss fights are presented like regular fights, but you're really supposed to stealth them or just run away.

And then there's the ever present letterbox problem and the fact that it crashes a whole lot (in true Bethesda tradition). It just got a huge patch so hopefully it's gotten more stable.

Not at all, there's a grand total of four of them in the whole game and they always encounter you in tight quarters with plenty of physics objects to knock around or water to splash about. Trap bolts if you know they're coming, shotgun if you can't.

Evil Within had a lot of irritating moments (especially the entire last quarter of the game, which basically turned into RE4's last act with less than half the ammo drops). The invisible dudes weren't one of them.

The times I encountered they pretty much never hit any of the physics objects or stepped in the water puddles. I had to find them by guesstimating based on noises and shooting that spot.

They never killed me and were never more than an irritation, but it just felt like the designers had realized players might have too much ammo after stealthing the village and said, "Welp, we gotta burn that somehow."

I've been playing a lot of Neo Svavenger and its one of the finest survival games ever done but there's just one thing that peeves me off immensely about it. The loving Blue Rot mechanic is the dumbest thing ever. It's basically wasteland ebola and you get it by coming into fisticuffs with the Blue Preachers. They will actively track you across the map and even ambush you in your sleep so it's pretty much always just a matter of time until one of them gets too close. Once the sickness is contracted it takes 3-5 in-game days for it to get terminal and then you have a 1/3 chance of becoming immune or else you die. The only way to cure it is by supposedly finding some event location but good luck doing that in time if you haven't already found it as the game world is like 50x50 large and the hexagon you're looking for is one of those 2500. It's just so incredibly loving arbitrary.

You can scan the room with the crossbow and the targeting will show you where they are (the blue line will be interrupted by their body). Which really only helps when they're still across the room, but it's something. I think flash bolts will stun them out of invisibility too and then you can just do a stealth kill.
