Pretty much. Killing off Twisty so soon still feels like a mistake, despite Dandy stepping up to the plate.

Said it before, but you really start to notice the lack of a supernatural element. And thinking about it, the supernatural was always the antagonist in one way or another across AHS, so really we just need more of the antagonist i.e. Dandy.

EDIT: Scratch that, I thought the scenes with the twins were nicely done tonight. Dot offering her life for Bette and then them offering themselves to Jimmy. After that Jerry Springer scene at the start, a surprising amount of emotion.

Solving all of life's problems through enhanced casting of Occam's Razor. Reward yourself with an imaginary chalice.

As much as I'm tempted to write this off like Coven, it doesn't have a jillion plotlines and general shenanigans like Coven and it also doesn't have Magical Bullshit repeatedly undermining any tension of the characters dying. And yet I'm incredibly annoyed that they shot Gabourey Sidibe so unceremoniously just to make a Relevant Social Point. Especially when she and the doctor were the best people on the show for being sensible.

This show really does drag, doesn't it? It kinda just creeps along and needs much better pacing.

Nobody says this about shows where straight people have sex all the time. This show is bad, but the gay sex is the least of its problems.

This very episode had Jimmy loving, on screen, the 600 pound woman. You saw him thrusting himself into her, several times. It was quite graphic. This very episode, also featured Jimmy about to finger a tupperware party full of women, again. Nobody said a thing. But, because we start to see one guy go down on another, you guys have a meltdown.

Yeah I'm not especially taken with the series either. The different but special thing has been way too much on the nose and at the same time the show is really just exploitative of it. Look at this fat chick who really likes food and Jimmy is going to gently caress her cause he's hammered and self destructive.

Its really boring a lot of the time too. Basically they sit around out in the campsite and wait for stuff to happen. Like there are bits where it warms up and shows something messed up but its not enough. One of things that was cool about both the haunted house and the psychiatric hospital was the location was like something that sucked the people into it and hosed them up. Once they arrived they were going somewhere unpredictable and probably disastrous personally and there was no getting away from it. The freakshow is basically a field in Florida. The danger is the narcissism of Elsa, Dandy and Stanley and the unwillingness of anyone to notice. Well Dandy's childhood friend noticed and that was one of the good moments.

And then there's too much stuff I hate like the musical numbers, a ghost with green smoke for 2 episodes, Elsa in general. Especially Elsa. Since when is character who monologues to other people a good idea.

For what its worth Jimmy as masturbatory aid to a bunch of housewives is pretty hosed up. Way more hosed up than gay blowjobs. But also one of the loving really? things about the series. Like a vibrator party I can see, getting fingerbanged by some random guy, not so much.

I'm as gay as they come and I'm not having a "meltdown" over it at all, nor do I think the show is really bad, nor did I say the gay sex made the show bad. I was just making a joke at Murphy's expense. Since you know this is not a serious show at all?

Dandy is better than anything this late into Coven so for that reason, and that reason only, Freekshow is better.

So Dandy will probably choke to death on a cocktail weiner in the next episode while nobody else dies for the rest of the season.

Lange's characters have been doing half-crazed monologues since the first season. She's been pushed to the front the past two seasons, but it's like the writers don't know how else to use her.

It's entertaining and all but there isn't much "horror" like there was in the first two seasons. It's more like a disturbing drama with moments of high camp and slasher violence honestly.

That has been bugging me so bad since we saw him last episode. Imagine Penny losing Paul and then somehow teaming up with Dandy to rampage through the town. I also expected more out of Penny's subplot beyond the freaks accepting her. Not saying they shouldn't have but there could have been an interesting conflict between people who are born freaks and people who are made into freaks. I thought maybe someone would begrudge Penny for having had a normal life til now.

Currently working my way through Coven and it's definitely a downer after Asylum. I hate Emma Roberts so goddamn much.

Oh yeah, hands down.

Honestly you could make a drat amusing horror-comedy centered around him. I wouldn't really say he's American Psychoish, though. What I like about him is he's basically this horrible serial killer and huge threat, but his core, he's a total loving pussy with easily hurt feelings.

That's a hard line to walk, but they've been successful there. I can't wait until someone fights back / injuries Dandy because I am full well expecting him to run off crying.

For as much as I want to bitch about things.. Freak Show is no Coven. At all.

There's reasonable complaints around for sure but at least the characters have felt overall somewhat consistent and most things that happen are at least somewhat consistent with what happened before opposed to Coven's "Oh poo poo I forgot this is supposed to be a horror show, quick, let's randomly kill someone in the dumbest loving way possible!" bullshit.

There's bad, then there's Coven bad, which is easily in the top 10 dumbest seasons of TV ever.

I'm fine with it. I mean, his behavior is perfect in character for his character. It's just how it comes off to me. He's literally waving his dick at Dell to taunt him and it's like "wow, super mature".

The first scene with him and the hustler dressed as a monster is pretty good. It lays out his character pretty well and how he uses people like that to get his own desires met, and you know he's gonna be a bad guy and a scumbag. So what if it's two guys having gay sex? That scene has a purpose: character insight to make it pretty clear that yeah, he really is gonna go through with this murder plot. And I dunno if that's what really needs to be added on top of the fact that the guy is a narcissistic sociopath in this week's episode. He's got Dell by the balls and Dell's despondent and he's just twisting the knife by waving his dick and taunting him with it and it's just too cruel for me. It's in character, yeah, but I feel like they're laying it on way too thick and overplaying their hand. We want Stanley to get his comeuppance but you're just rubbing it in our faces that he's a bad guy. Like you think we didn't get it already.

Something Awful overall has gotten A LOT better about the homophobia in the 10 years that I've been here. But, it still lingers to an extent, particularly in TVIV, in the form of, "I'm totally okay with gay people, I have a gay friend who lives in Soho! I just don't want it shoved in my face. I don't need to see two guys kissing or having sex. Now two girls on the other hand, if you know what I mean!"

Right? It's sort of weird to me because the first two seasons depicted sadism entirely differently. Murder House played with the horror of being trapped in inescapable toxic relationships, and everything reinforced that theme. Even the random gay dude being shanked was a solid example of an enticing yet toxic combination. Then in Asylum we got this thing where the horror came from sadistic authority figures using bigotry and ignorance to isolate and silence their prey, contrasted against the things that drove inmates to escape. The sadism is horrific because it snuffs out the hopes and dreams of innocent, socially invisible people.

Then Coven happened. Suddenly the sadism was the main focus and the characters lost any basic humanity. And it wasn't just sadistic, it got creative. There's rape, revenge-rape-by-succubus, scat-eating, pseudo-bestiality, Immolation, and a LOT of black people being tortured and murdered (which actually happened, and at the end the Voodoo Queen goes to hell too cuz it turned out she killed a bunch of babies, which did not actually happen because you cannot trade babies for immortality IRL).

But the cake goes to Evan Peters as a young man who is raped by his mother his whole life, who is killed as he tries to prevent his rapist frat brothers from escaping justice, brought back to life with a collection of his former friends' limbs and organs, experiences the horror of realizing that he's made up of his dead bros, and then his rape mom sucks his dick that isn't his dick and was last used for an act of rape and HE IS NEVER ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THIS TO ANYONE. The witches that inflicted this unimaginable hell on him seem to think they're making something right and the ethics of vigilante justice, necromancy, and torture as a form of apology are never addressed.

It's like over the season break, the entire ethos of the show changed. The plot, instead of being driven by the long-lasting effects of cruelty and violence esp. on an institutional level, now abruptly jumps tracks and speeds off in a new direction every episode, seemingly to avoid portraying the consequences of sadistic acts.

Now there's a gay character whose motivations are: 1. Make $$$ by murdering freaks and putting them in jars. 2. Have sex with his gigantic penis. Seriously it's so big you guys, and he's very very proud of it and likes to taunt repressed dudes by waving his FREAKISHLY BIG PENIS around, did I mention that freaky things go in jars?

I feel like instead of feeling suspense for the freaks, I'm supposed to be anticipating their (inevitably sexualized) revenge. Sorry about all the :words: but I felt the need to write this poo poo out.

Tl;dr Why is the gayest show ever, headed up by the Gayest TV Man Ever, suddenly starting to feel homophobic?
