I'm an American on vacation to Australia to visit my family that lives here. We left Sydney this morning to see the Blue Mountains and were surprised to see tons of emergency vehicles heading the other way, and a few minutes later started getting texts and seeing social media posts about this. What are the odds.

More to point out how this kind of language never actually appears whenever a similar incident happens with an isolated white person or two committing similar or worse crimes. And how ridiculous it would sound if it did. I literally took existing Facebook messages someone had posted earlier about this event, but changed them to refer to white people instead of Muslims. For some reason, the logic of "one person from group X doing bad thing proves that MULTICULTURALISM IS OVER, GUYS" never gets applied to white people the way Australians will happily apply it freely and casually towards Muslims. That behavior and faulty logic definitely needs to be called out. I don't think all white people are like this, though. I have some white friends!

So far this terrorist attack seems less threatening then a petrol station hold up. Or a cop trying to arrest a mentally ill man.

This raises a good objection, though. My whole point relies on the unspoken assumption that if you think this kind of speech towards white people is totally not okay bro, it should hopefully click in your mind that maybe it's not okay towards Muslims either! So the people unironically posting that poo poo about Muslims on Facebook would have to be at least smarter than Rapner right now for my message to have any point whatsoever. I don't think I've got good odds here.
