The background in this mission always made me uneasy. It's too big, it's too far, it's too regular. It just unnerved me in a hard-to-justify manner I never settled.

Given the size of the map, it takes a long time to fly up and around. Takes a long time to go straight through mind you. drat it. where can I get a copy of Homeworld. I have an itch to scratch.

Hey, there's a spelling error in the game. Subtitles say "Cloaked Generator". While the generator itself may be cloaked, I'm going to go ahead and assume "Cloak Generator" is the right term.

I don't think it was mentioned at all, but in the long range scan mode where you zoom out all the way, if you look at the way the resources are laid out you will notice something interesting. You can see it best at the 3:00 mark. Yeah. It is a wire-frame of a ship. awesome huh? Kinda lead me to making my own headcannon that this wasn't just a ship graveyard, but also the remains of an absolutely MASSIVE ship foundry.

You say that Elson is named after Harlan Ellison, but I think he's actually named after Peter Elson, the illustrator whose designs inspired a lot of the Homeworld ships:

You can also cheese this mission with a carrier. Send it to the very top edge of the map and you will be just a hair out of the dog's active range. Then fly right above the beacon and send waves of strike craft until one manages to dock.

I really like the design of the Junkyard Dog, with its large ship-grabbing pincers and all. Prior to Homeworld 2 (is there an echo in here?), I thought that the Dog was an automated defense or maintenance vehicle left behind by whoever was building the Dyson sphere, and it inspired a sense of wonder. Then that went down the toilet when Homeworld 2 came along and well, we'll discuss it when we get there I guess.

Something I was wondering, you can force your resource collectors to "attack" things, right? And they'll suck up minute amounts of resources from the things they beam to death... so can you force your resourcers to collect from the ship scraps floating around, and spend a couple hours building up a massive stockpile of RU's by drips and drabs?

There is a much better way to waste many hours building up a massive stockpile of RUs and you will learn about it very soon.

It's a shame you can't salvage the Junkyard Dog. I wonder if "can salvage" is just a simple tag in the text files somewhere that can be flipped to yes/no... salvage the Dog, then spend the rest of the campaign having it pilfer everything. I wonder if that would even work.

Okay, I tested the proposed junkyard dawg/ unit cap exploit, and unfortunately it does not work. Ships stolen in this mission still count towards your unit cap. On the other hand, I've discovered a weird bug with JD. First of all, the ships were in a completely different place than the one indicated by berryjohn. Second, after nabbing my fourth destroyer and going through the gate, JD flew to the region where it was stashing ships and froze, the destroyer still in its pincers.

Yeah I've seen that too. You can still blow it up, but your ships have a bit of trouble aiming at it and your captured ship will take a fairly heavy hit of collateral damage. Also, the amount of heavy cruisers you have at the endgame is your official game score. If the dog exploit worked, then records would be shattered.

Some serious modding might make it possible, but it'll be much more involved than just flipping a tag.

The lack of news regarding the remake is kind of annoying. I wish they'd give us more updates on their progress. I'm not asking for a release date or anything, but some information would be appreciated. I wouldn't be surprised if there was mod support tho. Homeworld was a highly moddable game from what I remember and Gearbox seem to be trying to respect the game and its fans. drat I wish it was out in time for Xmas

Ahh Karos. I was waiting for this level. Absolutely mind blowing the first time I played it. I remember watching my ships warp in, being zoomed out and having trouble finding them because I couldn't comprehend the size of the derelicts. It's even more astounding when you read the manual and realize how huge the mothership is. If I remember it's literally several kilometers long.

There were some.... technical difficulties with the Skirmish recording this evening. Nothing insurmountable, but I didn't get a viable audio for everyone. So I went out and recorded the first three missions of Cataclysm instead. And if anyone wants to try and get into a Commentating session, the doors are open again!

Contrasting the opening cutscene with the content of Graveyard is a pretty cool expansion of scale over the course of the story. I think its also cool that they took that aesthetic in this mission put at this particular point in the game which makes the "pinch" from the second to third act in the overall narrative. We establish relations and unlock the biggest baddest ships in our arsenal and start breaking into the Homeworld proper. It just so happens this quiet moment in our explosive expansion and revenge occurs against the backdrop of incomprehensibly large colossi built an unfathomable eternity ago for reasons we will never ever guess at. Just a friendly reminder the universe is massive and will proceed along just fine regardless of the outcome.

I will say I was a little disappointed the Dog didn't get his day. I would have liked to see him drag off a hapless crew and then a gate-hunt until you can retrieve them. I always felt giving the JD a strike-craft class engine was an oversight. Oh but here's a thing: I'd love to see this transperified, would make an awesome av.
