This thread's reaction to #metalgate warms my heart. I mean, a non-insignificant chunk of metal fandom is made up of neo-nazis and metal shows are almost always 95% white guys. I think the video games crowd is actually much more inclusive than us, and that's saying something. Also, given that SR Prozak once ran the nazi.org website, this is some serious acting-in-bad-faith that, unfortunately, Pantera fans will eat up.

Olve, as songwriter, was dependent on the rehearsal space and was willing to cover the rental costs himself. This sounds exactly like some of the trivial, petty hissyfits the bands I was in when I was loving seventeen years old would have to deal with. Metal gate made me have to interact with people that feel change is evil and that I'm actually the bad guy for forcing progressive views. In other words, same old poo poo. Anyway I'm flip flopping on going to see Opeth, In Flames & Red Fang, worth it?

I vaguely remember hearing a Red Fang song or two and kind of digging it so that set would probably be ok. I also remember that they have good taste in guitars and basses so I'd probably focus on that like a dork

The new Enslaved album also means a new Enslaved North American tour, with YOB (that's...interesting) and Ecstatic Vision (who?).

Have some well done, if not exactly mind blowing, melodic black metal with a frontwoman. One of the guitarists is from Inferi, a pretty good tech/melodic death band with some of the most amazing leads ever. As a matter of fact, have them both, even if only one qualifies as having XX chromosomes. http://oubliette.bandcamp.com/ http://inferi.bandcamp.com/ Also, have some Communion of Thieves, who veer a little more into crust and core and even grind but still have a (black) metal edge to 'em. The live YT clip is almost inscrutable, soundwise (and eventually visually because the lens fogs up), but the performance rules. http://communionofthieves.bandcamp.com/album/to-serve-man http://youtu.be/mVBWbQDp764

Edit to my prior post: I read the feminist themes vs. female frontperson criteria exactly backwards, ha. I guess it's possible Communion of Thieves have some feminist themes but I've not delved into the lyrics, sad to say. In light of this here's Cloud Rat! http://cloudrat.bandcamp.com/album/moksha-2

Incoherence posted:I was at the SF show last week and Red Fang played a really short set, maybe 25 minutes. Opeth played 7 songs from 6 albums, but they're 7 Opeth songs so that was still a pretty long time. In Flames felt like they played forever but I never got into them so I'm not sure whether it's because they sucked or because all of their songs sounded kind of the same to me. remember that time that some magazine did an article on feminist metal and most of the article was about wolves in the throne room while the bands that actually had women in them were relegated to a side panel? that was funny.
